Riga Pride A Big Success

Mozaika, Riga (Pride London's twinned event) was a HUGE SUCCESS this weekend!

A large delegation from Pride London joined our Latvian friends in Riga for a peaceful event. A heavy police presence ensured that the Mozaika Friendship Days passed off without a sign of the violence and intimidation that marred last year's event.

On Saturday the organisers hosted an international conference featuring speakers from the Metropolitan Police and Pride London as well as pride and political organisations from across Europe. The following day hundreds of LGBT people were joined by politicians from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and the European Parliament as they paraded through a park in the centre of the beautiful city of Riga.

Shamefully, on the other side of the city an event entitled "World Against Homosexuals" attracted a few thousand people.

New York, New York, it's a helluva town...!

ENO will once again host the Annual Gala for Pride London 07 on 25 May at the London Coliseum. This year's show is the most successful production in ENO's history: Bernstein's On the Town.

ENO's Olivier Award-nominated production of On the Town is revived, following a sell-out run in 2005 when it was dubbed a 'helluva hit' by The Observer and 'a wonderful evening's entertainment' by the Evening Standard. Director Jude Kelly and her creative team reunite to stage Bernstein's masterpiece, a sensational show that brilliantly evokes 1940s New York.

Featuring West End artist Caroline O'Connor and Absolutely Fabulous TV star June Whitfield, alongside the ENO Orchestra and Chorus, On the Town follows the fortunes of three sailors looking for fun and romance on a day's shore leave. With music by Leonard Bernstein, who also composed West Side Story, book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green the duo behind Singin' in the Rain and based on an idea by Jerome Robbins, On the Town is musical theatre at its finest. Pride London's twin, Riga Pride, gets the go ahead in court ruling

Our twin event, Riga Pride, has won an historic victory against Riga City Council for banning their Pride event last year. The District Court ruled that the council's decision to withdraw permission for Pride last year was illegal under Latvian law.

Mozaika, organisers of Riga Pride were delighted' last week at the successful outcome of a long and protracted battle for LGBT equality. However they still anticipate opposition from No Pride' protesters. The organisation was formed by homophobic religious groups following the high profile, international press trip, organised by Pride London last month in support of our twin city.

The Mozaika organisation welcomes visitors to support Pride in their beautiful city on 03 June. Travel packages are being organised by Embark travel. Email for more details.
