It has become known as the one-stop shop supplying the university community with academic textbooks and stationery.
The shop also sells second-hand books; gifts, mini-market goods, and UCT clothing and memorabilia. Please click here for the memorabilia price list.
There is also a virtual shop, Dial-a-Book, through which agents can assist clients in six of the eleven official South African languages: English, Afrikaans, Sotho, Tswana, Xhosa and Zulu.
33% buy back
BrainBooks offers a 33% buy-back and allows students to return books bought from them in the previous year.
An account is opened for each person with credit valued at 33% of the price they paid for their books.
This credit can be used until it is depleted.
Second-hand books
Students can bring any book for BrainBooks to try and sell on their behalf. Once the book is sold, the shop will notify the student to collect their money.
The selling price of the book is determined by the seller and BrainBooks takes a 20% administration fee.
