St. Xavier Core Curriculum 2006-2007

To be awarded a college preparatory diploma, a student must have earned a minimum of 23-1/2 units of credit.  A unit of credit is equivalent to a passing grade in a subject for two semesters; a half-credit is earned by completing a one-semester course; a quarter-credit is earned in Physical Education, Oral Communication, and Information Processing; String Ensemble is a full-year course that earns a half-credit.

Required Credits:

English: 4 credits
Mathematics: 4 credits
Foreign Language: 3 credits of the same language
Physical Education: 1/2 credit
Health: 1/2 credit
Religious Education: 4 credits
Science: 3 credits (one may be a non-lab science)
Social Studies: 3 credits
Fine Arts: 1 credit
Oral Communication: 1/4 credit
Information Processing: 1/4 credit
 
TOTAL:  23-1/2 credits

Each student is required to take at least SIX courses in each of his eight semesters, with the exception of senior students who are enrolled in two or more AP classes during a semester.  These students may take five courses.
