About research co-operation
Nordic research co-operation involves Nordic research institutions, fixed-term research programmes, Nordic Centres of Excellence (NCoE), grant schemes and the co-ordination and planning of major infrastructure investments. The overall objective is to promote research of the highest possible international quality.
The Ministers of Education and Research are responsible for the sector. A Committee of Senior Officials prepares all the work and meetings on their behalf.
The Nordic Research Board (www.nordforsk.org) was established in early 2005 to co-ordinate Nordic research. Its main job is to promote efficient co-operation between the Nordic countries on questions related to research and researcher training of the highest international quality.

The Finnish Programme for the Presidency 2007 will strive to strengthen the Nordic region in order to meet the challenges of globalisation. The programme emphasises the importance of guaranteeing the success of the Nordic model, by further developing competitiveness and welfare.

Major media coverage of globalisation meeting
The decision by the Nordic prime ministers to make globalisation a top Nordic priority has attracted a great deal of media coverage, with news agencies, broadcasters and the written press all reporting on their meeting in Punkaharju, East Finland, at the start of the week.

New phase for Nordic partnership
"Nordic co-operation has entered a new phase, and I am extremely pleased," Halldór Ásgrímsson, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers, said as the Nordic Prime Ministers agreed to revamp collaboration on globalisation. Globalisation places new demands on the Region but also opens up new opportunities.

Six Nordic Masters
The universities in Åbo and Jyväskylä in Finland, Bergen in Norway, Copenhagen and Århus in Denmark and the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden will be the main co-ordinators of six specially selected Nordic Masters programmes. The six projects will involve 17 institutes of higher education in all of the Nordic countries.
