Supporting The Mount St. Helens VolcanoCam

How is the VolcanoCam supported?

The Mount St. Helens VolcanoCam receives no government funding. In fact, there is no budget at all for the VolcanoCam. Our current VolcanoCam was funded by a small grant from the Northwest Interpretive Association.

Staff support for the VolcanoCam comes from several of us as time permits. Unfortunately our time is too often quite limited.

What happens if the VolcanoCam breaks down?

No more VolcanoCam. While we will do our best to replace the VolcanoCam, with no money we would be scrambling to locate funding to purchase new equipment.

Do you take donations?

We continue to explore the legalities of a federal agency accepting donations. The Northwest Interpretive Association purchased our current VolcanoCam for us, based upon our recommendations and technical specifications of what we needed. You can always contact the Northwest Interpretive Association if you wish to donate to support the VolcanoCam. All that is asked is that you notify the NWIA that your donation is for the Mount St. Helens VolcanoCam.

Do you have any future plans for additional VolcanoCams?

The Northwest Interpretive Association already provided us with a second grant for another VolcanoCam. This second VolcanoCam will be installed viewing a different Volcano within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest sometime later this year.

We would like to install additional Mount St. Helens VolcanoCams, at Johnston Ridge Observatory and and Coldwater Lake Visitor Center. We just do not have the funding for them.

I might be willing to donate the equipment you need. Who do I contact?

Use our VolcanoCam contact web form. (27 October 2004)

If I donate equipment, will you say so on the VolcanoCam web site?

The US Government does not endorse any product or service. (27 October 2004)
