School History
Tanjong
Katong Primary is a merger of Fowlie,Haig Boys'and Mountbatten Primary.
It opened
its
doors
on 2nd January 2001 to receive 1700 pupils into its fold. Then , we had pupils
from more than thirty countries, now it is around twenty-five countries. This
great diversity is an advantage in the sense that the pupils are schooled in
the local system but in reality they are exposed to a rich myraid of cultures
merely by interacting with each other. Hence, our pupils are prepared locally
but they are ready and fit for the world. They communicate well and use English
confidently as the medium of communication among themselves, with their teachers
and the adults around them - parent volunteers as well as service providers
and adult mentors from Tanjong Katong Girls' Secondary and staff of the Retired
Senior Volunteers Programme, (RSVP).
We had our official Opening on 15th July 2004. The pupils put up a musical, 'Change Of Winds' to depict the transition from three to a united one. This impressive musical garnered accolades from the guests, parents, MOE officials as well as the Guest-Of-Honour, Mr Abdullah Tarmugi, Speaker Of Parliment and MP for Siglap GRC. The vibrant community was also captured in our 'Amazed Trial', a prelude to the opening. The guests were taken through a trial of programmes and activities ran by the pupils. In this trial they were also exposed to the rich cultures and traditions of our school population. The guests were indeed amazed to discover the wealth of knowledge the pupils were privy too.
