The
field of Anthropology
studies humanity from the evolution of our earliest primate
ancestors to the diversity of modern cultures. The work
done in our department spans many areas within this broad
field. Our collection of approximately 16,000 objects
represents material cultures from peoples throughout the
world. The Traditional Arts Program brings to the Academy
performers, artists, and crafts people from the Bay Area's
many diverse ethnic communities. Active research in the
department is concerned with the evolution and diversification
of primates, including humans. We invite you to browse
our online exhibits, view our collection remotely, and learn
about Anthropology at the California Academy of Sciences. |
