Professor Ian H. Witten
Ian H. Witten is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Waikato in New Zealand where he directs the New Zealand Digital Library research project. His research interests include information retrieval, machine learning, text compression, and programming by demonstration. He has published widely in these areas, including several books, the most recent being Managing Gigabytes (1999), How to build a digital library (2003), Data Mining (2005) and Web Dragons (2007), all from Morgan Kaufmann. He received an MA in mathematics from Cambridge Unversity,England; an MSc in computer science from the University of Calgary, Canada; and a PhD in electrical engineering from Essex University, England. He is a fellow of the ACM and of the Royal Society of New Zealand. He received the 2004 IFIP Namur Award, a biennial honour accorded for “outstanding contribution with international impact to the awareness of social implications of information and communication technology” and the 2005 SIGKDD Service Award for “an outstanding contribution to the data mining field” and in 2006 the Royal Society of New Zealand Hector Medal for “an outstanding contribution to the advancement of the mathematical and information sciences.”
   
Assoc Prof Elok R. Tee
Elok R. Tee is the research coordinator of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. His present research interests are in effective IS management and the implementation of IT governance standards. He is presently on sabbatical working on a framework for investigation of IS. He received an MCompSc in biometrics from Universiti Malaya; and an MEnv in environmental science and a PhD in computer communications from Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is a council member of the Malaysian Scientific Association, member of the NECF Research Commission, IEEE and Mensa Malaysia.
   
Professor Dr Peter Songan
Peter Songan is currently a professor of human resource development at the Faculty of Cognitive Science and Human Development, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. He is currently the Dean of the Centre for Applied Learning and Multimedia. In the area of research and publications, he have been involved in numerous research projects, resulting in the publications of articles in refereed journals, chapters of edited books, edited conference proceedings, articles in conference proceedings, articles in research reports or monographs and papers presented in conferences, seminars and workshops. One of the major research projects that he is now currently involved with is the e-Bario Project.
   
Dr Alvin Yeo Wee
Alvin Yeo is the Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Computer Science and IT as well as the Team Leader of the eBario Research Team. His Information and Communications Technology for Rural Development (ICT4RD) research has resulted in over 10 publications, including 3 book chapters in The Encyclopedia of Developing Regional Communities with ICT. He has been involved in the evaluation of two Federal Government ICT4RD programme, and together with Prof. Dr. Peter Songan, Dr Yeo co-produced A Guidebook on Setting Up Community E-Centres in Rural Areas Based on the Experiences in Malaysia commissioned by UNESCAP. He is active in HCI research, specifically in software internationalisation, multimodal interaction, and universal accessibility, and currently is involved in language technology research projects, focusing specifically on indigenous languages of Sarawak.
