  • Harney rejects Labour on co-location - the truth about costs is simple and clear

    The Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney, today rejected the attempts by Pat Rabbitte and Liz McManus to confuse the public about the costs of 1,000 new public beds through the co-location initiative.'The truth is simple, ' said Ms Harney.'With the co-location idea, we will get 1,000 new public beds at- less than half the building cost – about 40%- less than a third of the running cost.'Let me give an example. A woman is thinking of buying a car for 20,000 euro that costs 3,000 euro a year to run.'If she was offered the same car for 8,000 euro and 1,000 euro to run, wouldn't that be a great deal?
