HARLAN ELLISON READS @ EARTH-2 COMICS, 06.14.07

Press Release
Earth-2 Comics is pleased to announce that Harlan Ellison, award-winning writer of novels, short stories, teleplays, essays and comic books, will be reading from his works on Thursday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. The event will take place at Earth-2 Comics, 15017 Ventura Blvd., in Sherman Oaks, California, and is a benefit to raise funds for the Penny Lane Foster Youth Center Library Project. Tickets are $20 and all proceeds go to Penny Lane. Tickets are available by calling (818) 386-9590 or through the earth2comics.com Web site.

Harlan Ellison was recently characterized by the New York Times Book Review as having "the spellbinding quality of a great nonstop talker, with a cultural warehouse for a mind." He has won numerous awards for his prose fiction and been honored an unprecedented four times by the Writers Guild of America with the outstanding teleplay award for solo work, including his work on the 1985 revival of Twilight Zone. Among his most recognized works are Strange Wine, "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream," "Shatterday" and An Edge in My Voice.

A lifelong comic-book enthusiast, Ellison has contributed to the adventures of Batman, the Hulk and the Avengers, as well as the Justice League of America in a recent tribute to legendary DC Comics editor Julie Schwartz. Having inspired a generation of creators, Ellison's work has regularly been adapted to the graphic-novel format, including the groundbreaking Demon with a Glass Hand with Marshall Rogers. In the Dream Corridor series published by Dark Horse, Ellison himself appears as the series' narrator in classic horror comic fashion.

Penny Lane was founded by Ivelise Markovits in 1969. Headquartered in North Hills, California, Penny Lane provides therapeutic residential services and education for teenagers, foster family home placements for boys and girls and transitional housing for young adults who would otherwise be homeless.

Earth-2 Comics was established by entertainment industry veterans Carr D'Angelo and Jud Meyers in 2003 and has since become Sherman Oaks's most popular shop for enthusiasts of comic books and graphic novels.

The Library Project was initiated last year when Meyers was making a donation of books and T-shirts to the center but discovered there was not a dedicated reading room on the premises.
