From: "Julian, Peter - M.P." <Julian.P@parl.gc.ca>
To: "Julian, Peter - M.P." <Julian.P@parl.gc.ca>
(message en français suit...)

Dear friends,

This is my latest update as NDP Trade Critic as part of our ongoing efforts in the House of Commons to expose and halt the SPP agenda.

Please find attached a Motion I have submitted to the Standing Committee on International Trade (CIIT). It is the first in a series of Motions which I will be submitting on behalf of the NDP to the CIIT. We hope that your response and support will help us increase pressure on the Harper government to suspend SPP implementation; and organize a full legislative review and meaningful consultations with civil society, culminating with a full debate and a vote in Parliament.

You can help.

Please send a message to Members of the Standing Committee on International Trade (CIIT) asking them to support the NDP Motion (enclosed), with a cc to the Clerk of the Committee, Normand Radford and to my office. I have included the list of names of the Members of CIIT as well as their contact information.

Attached you will also find a petition for distribution over the summer time. Pls note: when you are ready to print the petition, under Print, pls go to page handling, where you will need to check off (if not already checked off) "choose paper source by PDF paper size".

'Sun not behind global warming'

Solar physicists have found that while solar activity may have played a role in climate change in the first half of the last century, it is not driving the recent rapid warming.
----------------------------

THE key plank of a controversial British documentary has been discredited by new research showing that the sun is not causing global warming.
......The findings are in stark contrast to claims made in the documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle, which is to be shown on ABC television on Thursday.

The program dismisses the widely held conclusion that greenhouse gases from human activity are driving global warming, instead claiming that changes in solar activity have triggered recent warming.
......"Manmade global warming is unmitigated nonsense," the program's writer and director, Martin Durkin, wrote in last Saturday's The Weekend Australian.

But solar physicists at Britain's Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and the University of Southampton, along with colleague Claus Froehlich of the World Radiation Centre in Dorf, Switzerland, have found that while solar activity may have played a role in climate change in the first half of the last century, it is not driving the recent rapid warming.

VIDEO: The Great Global Warming Swindle

Are you green? How many flights have you taken in the last year? Feeling guilty about all those unnecessary car journeys? Well, maybe ... there's no need to feel bad. According to a group of scientists brought together by documentary-maker Martin Durkin, if the planet is heating up, it isn't your fault and there's nothing you can do about it. We've almost begun to take it for granted that climate change is a man-made phenomenon. But just as the environmental lobby think they've got our attention, a group of naysayers have emerged to slay the whole premise of global warming.

War on Terror Breeds a Need for Public Relations

Op-Ed: War on Terror Breeds a Need for Public Relations

U.S. Must Keep Terror Threat 'Real' to Other Nations, Official Says.

(SALEM, Ore.) - An American diplomat is concerned that the United States "war on terror" is not being taken seriously in the world, and that the American effort is falling flat in some areas.

"If we don't keep people's attitudes and eyes focused on the threat, they tend to drift away to other subjects," Richard Lawless said. "And keeping people focused on that issue has been very tough."

Lawless retired last week after almost five years as deputy assistant secretary for Asian and Pacific affairs.

Shouldn't it be a good sign if entire nations are missing the boat? Americans are made to run scared by the Presidential administration's dire warnings and "color coded" terrorist alerts, but other people in other places don't seem to take the bait.

This leaves Lawless nervous; he appears to be more concerned over finding ways to make people disturbed, than to simply thank their lucky stars that this whole "terrorism" thing appears to be blown a thousand times out of proportion by the American media.

Open Letter to Purdue University President France Córdova

Friday, July 6 2007

Dear President Córdova,

Congratulations on your recent appointment at Purdue University. As a long time citizen of the state of Indiana, I welcome you to what I know to be an outstanding institution of higher learning. At the same time, I hope to help you see an immediate opportunity to make a great positive difference in the lives of the people of our state and, in fact, a great difference in the lives of people everywhere. Through your appointment you have been given this opportunity to speak out and denounce what can be called, at best, criminally negligent science on the part of a small segment of the Purdue faculty.

Last month, a few Purdue professors, along with some students, presented a short animation ostensibly related to the 9/11 tragedy at the World Trade Center (WTC). Surprisingly the University then announced this animation in a news release, as if it represented a scientifically accurate simulation of the impact of a Boeing 767 into the WTC's north tower.[1] Unfortunately, this short video clip is far from a scientifically-based production, as it actually contradicts several of the government's own, much more intensive studies, and shamefully fails to capture some of the most basic aspects of the related events. To make things worse, Purdue University paradoxically implies that this brief animation provides support for the overworked fire-induced collapse hypothesis. By simultaneously contradicting and voicing support for the official story, Purdue has helped to promote the Bush Administration's fraudulent 9/11 Wars, and instantly earned a notorious place in modern history.

Globalists To Formally Propose Merger Of U.S., Canada, Mexico
North American Union to be presented to Congress by powerful think tank
Paul Joseph Watson

Thursday, July 5, 2007

Globalist political heavyweights are preparing to formally propose to Congress the merger of the U.S., Canada and Mexico into a North American Union at the end of summer after they held secret meetings to devise a plan that will be presented to representatives of all three governments.

"A powerful think tank chaired by former Sen. Sam Nunn and guided by trustees including Richard Armitage, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Harold Brown, William Cohen and Henry Kissinger, is in the final stages of preparing a report to the White House and U.S. Congress on the benefits of integrating the U.S., Mexico and Canada into one political, economic and security bloc," reports World Net Daily.

Suicide & Death Can Lurk In Each SSRI Pill

Suicide & Death Can Lurk In Each SSRI Pill

I am Ann Blake Tracy, PhD, head of the International Coalition for Drug Awareness. I am the author of Prozac: Panacea or Pandora? - Our Serotonin Nightmare and have testified in court cases involving antidepressants for 12 1/2 years. The last 15 years of my life have been devoted full time to researching and writing about SSRI antidepressants.
Research on serotonin has been clear from the very beginning that the most damaging thing that could be done to the serotonin system would be to impair one's ability to metabolize serotonin. Yet that is exactly how SSRI antidepressants exert their effects.
For decades research has shown that impairing serotonin metabolism will produce migraines, hot flashes, pains around the heart, difficulty breathing, a worsening of bronchial complaints, tension and anxiety which appear from out of nowhere, depression, suicide - especially very violent suicide, hostility, violent crime, arson, substance abuse, psychosis, mania, organic brain disease, autism, anorexia, reckless driving, Alzheimer's, impulsive behavior with no concern for punishment, and argumentative behavior.

How anyone ever thought it would be "therapeutic" to chemically induce these reactions is beyond me. Yet, these reactions are exactly what we have witnessed in our society over the past decade and a half as a result of the widespread use of these drugs.

Environmental Defence calls Lake Ontario worst
By JAMIE NGO, SUN MEDIA

"The pollution is getting worse and worse and we know because of the contamination levels in Great Lakes fish," Freeman said. "Canada is falling further and further behind."

Freeman said Canada is largely to blame for not being committed to "cleaning up" in comparison to the U.S.

"Our studies on pollution watch in Environmental Defence have shown that pollution sources in Canada are actually becoming worse," he said. "If you look on a per facility basis, Canadian facilities pollute 93 per cent more than their U.S. counterparts -- this is a Canadian problem."

Seeds Of Debt Sow Suicide In India

DOUG SANDERS
From Saturday's Globe and Mail

WARDHA, INDIA — Only a few years ago, the Bandharkawda family considered themselves one of the developing world's great success stories. From the depths of rural poverty, on farm-labour earnings of a few cents a day, they had saved for 40 years to attain the old Indian dream of owning land and becoming actual farmers.

When the patriarch, Barku Bandharkawda, 80, bought his hectare of fertile land in the sun-baked centre of India for the equivalent of $375 in 1997 and planted it with hybrid cotton seeds, he was joining the tail end of the country's so-called Green Revolution, growing a high-yield cash crop destined for world markets. He was part of the Indian agricultural success story.

This summer, his dream came to a despondent end. While he was attending a wedding in a neighbouring village a few weeks ago, Mr. Bandharkawda's only son, Ishwar, 45, strolled into his parched fields with a glass bottle in his hand. The next morning, Mr. Bandharkawda found his son's body amid the furrows. He had taken his life, leaving a wife and two beloved children, in a symbolic manner that has become alarmingly popular around here: drinking a litre of agricultural pesticide.

Meat regulations slaughter small business

By RICHARD ROLKE
Morning Star Staff

Jul 06 2007

North Okanagan farmers claim the provincial government is forcing them out of business.

Producers of beef, pork and poultry say they will be left with few options for processing meat once new meat inspection regulations take place.

“They are threatening the ability of local farmers to contribute to the food system,” said Wendy Aasen, with the North Okanagan Food Action Coalition.

As of Sept. 30, the new rules will force all meat to be slaughtered in a provincially licensed facility. It also has to be inspected prior to being sold.
