ADHESIVES AND SEALANTS

Seam Grip® & Aquaseal® Production Systems

Using Seam Grip® and Aquaseal® Urethane Adhesives in production is fast and easy with pneumatic mixing-dispensing guns. These dispensers can extrude clear ribbons (with the appearance of tape) or lines in several widths by using different nozzles. Seal seams, bond sections, reinforce high-wear areas, or create designs; the possibilities are unlimited. The system even works on compound curves.
Dispensing guns of this type precisely mix McNett urethanes with Cotol-240™ cure accelerator as the material is applied. As a result, the urethane will cure enough in 30 to 45 minutes to allow the product to be turned over or moved. No gun cleaning is required. All "wet" components are inexpensive, disposable plastic.
Dispensing Gun Options:
Pneumatic guns (air-compressor driven) are for intensive production use.
Small manual guns are used for spot or repair applications.
Application widths: Fine line tips are standard. Manual gun has 1/4 inch spreader option. Pneumatic has 1 inch spreader option.
Cure time: Product can generally be moved, turned or hung in 30-45 minutes. Full cure in 1-2 hours depending upon ambient humidity.
Cartridge Ratios: The manual gun is a 1:4 ratio. The pneumatic gun is 1:2. Application thickness is determined by choosing between the Aquaseal and Seam Grip formulas.

Step by Step Photos:
1)
Slice the top or bottom off an 8 oz tube (Seam Grip or Aquaseal) and pour into one side of the 2-sided cartridge. Seal section by inserting end cap.
2) Pour Cotol-240 HV (thick version) into small side of cartridge. Seal section by inserting end cap.
3) Attach static mixing tube.
4) Attach spreader tip if desired.
5) Insert loaded cartridge into gun.
6) Squeeze trigger to apply to material. NOTE: Keep hand on static mixer for fine control. Adjust gun angle for desired effect.

Dispensing Gun Pressure:
Testing will be required to determine the best pressure for a specific application. Standard compressors with pressure regulating valves work well. Suggested starting points:
Seam Grip and Cotol-240 HV mixture: 20-30 PSI,
Aquaseal and Cotol-240 HV mixture: 60-70 PSI

Apply at high angle for thin bead. Store unused mixture in freezer. NOTE: Properties of adhesive in cartridge may change during storage. McNett recommends using entire cartridge contents the same day the cartridge is loaded. Thaw completely under hot water before use. Shake for 60 seconds to properly mix Cotol-240™.

Single-component, moisture curing urethane adhesives and sealants are ideal for permanent bonding, sealing, potting and patching applications. Cotol-240™ Cleaner and Cure Accelerator speeds cure time.

Neoprene-based contact cements are specially formulated for rapid tack, bonding and unsurpassed elasticity.

Water-based urethane sealants cure quickly, have no VOCs and are ideal for many production applications.

Silicone seam sealant is an extremely high grade formula ideal for sealing silicone treated nylons and polyesters.

Single-Component Moisture Curing Urethanes

OEM_SeamGrip Seam Grip® Seam Sealer & Outdoor Repair. Low viscosity urethane sealant and adhesive. Ideal for sealing seams and penetrating stitching on fabrics and thin materials. Provides permanent sealing and bonding. Excellent potting compound, electrically non-conductive.

Examples of Seam Grip compatible materials: Synthetic and natural fabrics in all deniers, coated or uncoated (not for use with silicone coated fabrics); breathable fabrics, foams, composites, many plastics; other thin and flexible materials.

Seam Grip is available in 1/4 oz., 1/2 oz., 1 oz. and 8 oz. tubes.


OEM_Aquaseal

Aquaseal® and Aquasure™ Urethane Repair Adhesives and Sealants. High viscosity urethane gel. Ideal for applications where thick, durable applications are needed. Seal seams and bond thick materials or coat materials for abrasion resistance. Excellent potting compound, electrically non-conductive.

Examples of Aquaseal compatible materials: Neoprene, Hypalon® , vinyls, natural and synthetic leather and suede, tri-laminate materials, foams, composites and many plastics.

Aquaseal is available in 1/4 oz., 1/2 oz., 1 oz. and 8 oz. tubes.


OEM_Freesole

Freesole® Urethane Formula Shoe Repair. Similar in viscosity to Aquaseal. Ideal for many of the same applications. Excellent potting compound, electrically non-conductive.

Examples of Freesole compatible materials: Ideal coating and repair for work gloves, boots and clothing, especially for harsh environments such as lumber mills, plywood and engineered wood mills, steel mills and foundries, oil rigs, etc.

Freesole is available in 1-1/2 oz. tubes.



OEM_Cotol

Cotol-240™ Cleaner and Cure Accelerator. Speeds cure time of all three moisture-curing urethane formulas to approximately 2 hours. Also an ideal precleaner to prepare surfaces for bonding. Can be used to thin the formulas to a custom viscosity. Does not affect the final strength or other characteristics of the urethane adhesives.

Cotol-240 is available in 1/2 oz. bottles, 4 oz. cans and quarts.

NOTE: Treat the following information as a guideline only. Test all applications thoroughly before initiating full production.

For most applications of the urethane adhesives the surface need only be clean; however, to ensure consistent bonding results it may be wise to pretreat surfaces with a solvent wipe using a solvent such as isopropyl alcohol, acetone, MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) or toluene.

New materials such as plastics, vinyls, latex and composites will often be contaminated with mold release agents or other oils which will need to be removed with solvents to achieve maximum bond strength.

NOTE: Take all appropriate safety precautions when using solvents and adhesives. Follow manufacturer's directions and use appropriate safety equipment when necessary.

Uncontaminated plastics and composites: Wipe bonding surfaces with isopropyl alcohol. Allow alcohol to evaporate before bonding.

Plastics and composites contaminated with mold release agents: Wipe bonding surfaces with isopropyl alcohol soaked rag (or stronger solvent). Roughen surface with abrasive tool or fine grit sandpaper and wipe again with isopropyl soaked rag. Allow alcohol to evaporate before bonding.

Rubber, latex and vinyls: Wipe bonding surfaces with MEK-soaked rag. Roughen surface with abrasive tool or fine grit sandpaper and wipe again with MEK-soaked rag. Allow MEK to evaporate before bonding.

Keep treated area level until urethane is fully cured (8 to 12 hours or longer depending upon humidity and other factors). Clamp or otherwise hold components together if needed.


OEM_SealCem

Seal Cement™ Contact Cement for Neoprene is ideal for applications where rapid cure times and high flexibility and elasticity are required.

Seal Cement's ideal tack and rapid cure time (15 to 30 minutes) and excellent strength often makes it ideal for applications where production must proceed at a steady pace. Though the urethane adhesives can provide higher bond strength in many applications, the Seal Cement formula may provide easier bonding on difficult surfaces such as vinyl.

Examples of Seal Cement compatible materials: Vinyls, latex, Hypalon®, neoprene, natural and synthetic fabrics, other materials.

Seal Cement is available in Black or Clear in 2 oz. tubes, 4 oz. cans and gallons.

Seam Sure Water Based Seam Sealer. Water based urethane formula dries quickly to a nearly invisible, non-gloss finish. Ideal for use where production must proceed at a steady pace and the extreme durability of Seam Grip is not needed. Excellent seam and stitching penetration and flexibility.

Examples of Seam Sure compatible materials: Seams in natural and synthetic fabrics including nylon and polyester.

Seam Sure is available in 2 oz. bottles with brush cap applicator.

OEM_SilNet

SilNet™ Silicone Seam Sealer. Specially designed for sealing seams on silicone treated nylon and polyester fabric and other silicone treated materials. Easy to use gel cures rapidly and provides a durable, elastic seal. Bonds best to silicone treated items, but is also useful on non-silicone items where the extreme durability of Seam Grip® or Aquaseal® is not required.

Examples of SilNet compatible materials: silicone treated nylon or polyester fabrics, typically used on seams; some bonding applications where extreme high strength is not required.

SilNet is available in 1-1/2 oz. tubes.

NOTE: Treat the following information as a guideline only. Test all applications thoroughly before initiating full production.

For most applications of SilNet the surface need only be clean and dry. If needed, clean material with Seam Grip? brand Seam Cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. On surfaces contaminated with dust, first lift dust with a damp, soapy sponge. Wipe again with soap-free sponge to remove soap residue, then clean with alcohol. Allow surface to dry before applying SilNet.

Apply SilNet to inside of seam (interior of item). Apply thin film across taut fabric, sealing stitching and folds. Can be applied directly from tube or decant into dispensing gun and apply.

Let dry 3 to 6 hours. Fully cured surface should not be significantly tacky (slight tackiness may exist). Test- fold small area before folding up entire item. If desired, unscented talc may be dusted on cured SilNet to remove all traces of tack.

If bonding, clamp or otherwise hold components together until cured.

SEAM TAPES AND HEAT APPLIED FABRIC


OEM_Melco

Melco™ Seam Tape provides an attractive and extremely durable finish to sewn or welded seams on neoprene, Lycra, nylon and a wide variety of similar materials. Melco tape adds strength to seams and stretches in all directions. Ideal for seam taping products that will receive heavy use in challenging environments.

Melco tape is approximately 1mm thick and is constructed of three layers: 1) A top layer of heat and abrasion resistant 75 denier nylon jersey mesh, 2) An interior core of cross linked polyurethane, and 3) A base layer of polyurethane hot melt adhesive which provides an extremely aggressive bond that is highly resistant to hydrolysis and corrosion.

Examples of Melco tape compatible materials: Neoprene, Lycra, Nylon (including coated nylons), tri-laminate materials.

Melco tape is available in three widths: 20mm (3/4 inch), 300mm (1 foot) and 600mm (2 feet). Rolls are 60 meters long. All widths are available in black. Melco tape in the 20mm size is available in black and brown. Clear and Black slick finish tapes are available in 20mm width in quantities of 6,000 meters or more.

Use information for Melco Tape

Melco tape should be briefly heated to between 310? F and 330? F and then pressed for best bonding. Air nozzles on heat taping machines may need to be set to significantly higher temperatures to assure that the hot melt adhesive reaches 310? F to 330? F in the allotted amount of time. Determining optimal heating temperature and machine speed will require some experimentation.

Hand iron applications will also work, but will require experimentation and careful application. Melco tape can also be attached using Aquaseal, Seam Grip or Seal Cement.

SURFACE PROTECTANTS

McNett surface protectants and re-plasticizers are high performance, commercial grade formulas designed to prolong the life and enhance the look of equipment made with vinyl, neoprene, latex, Hypalon® , fiberglass, foams, plastics, synthetic rubber, nylon and polyester.


OEM_UVTech

UV Tech™ UV Surface Protectant and Rejuvenator. Premier surface protectant and re-plasticizer—ideal for nearly all synthetic, latex and leather surfaces. UV Tech provides maximum protection from UV damage and color fading. Replaces lost plasticizers to help rejuvenate materials and retard checking, cracking and premature aging. Apply during production to enhance product lifespan and appearance.

Examples of UV Tech compatible materials: Vinyls, Hypalon®, neoprene, latex, fiberglass, plastics, synthetic rubber, synthetic foams, nylon, polyester.

UV Tech is available in 2 oz. spray bottles, 8 oz. & 16 oz spray bottles and gallons.

Use Information for UV Tech

Spray UV Tech liberally over dry surface or spray on rag and apply with wiping motion. Reapply every 30 to 45 days on items receiving regular sun exposure. Treat surfaces before long term storage.


OEM_SilSpray

Silicone Spray Lubricant and Protectant provides the highest quality silicone oil atomized in a CFC-free aerosol spray. Excellent bonding properties. Ideal for situations where a high gloss finish is desired. Also provides excellent lubrication.

Examples of Silicone Spray compatible materials: Vinyl, synthetic rubber, neoprene, steel and other metals, nylons and other fabrics.

Silicone Spray is available in 3-1/2 oz. and 11-1/2 oz. aerosol cans

Silicone Pump™ Lubricant and Protectant delivers many of the same benefits of Silicone Spray in a non-aerosol pump sprayer. Provides the same high gloss finish. Provides excellent lubrication.

Examples of Silicone Pump compatible materials: Vinyl, synthetic rubber, neoprene, steel and other metals, nylons and other fabrics.

Silicone Pump is available in 8 oz. spray bottles and gallons.

WATERPROOF COATINGS

McNett makes high quality waterproof and water resistant treatments for both breathable and non-breathable materials.


OEM_ThGuard

ReviveX® Wash-In and Spray-On Water and Stain Repellents. Liquid DWR provides maximum water resistance for all types of fabrics, including breathable coatings and laminates. The emulsion coats fabrics without affecting breathablity. Ideal for highly technical fabrics and garments.

Examples of ReviveX compatible materials: All types of synthetic and natural fabrics including technical coatings and laminates.

ReviveX is available in 5, 10 & 12 oz. bottles with or without spray applicators. Call regarding larger quantities.

Use Information for ReviveX

Ensure fabric is clean and free of release agents and other contaminants.

There are two main application methods:

  1. Mix ReviveX with water at the suggested ratios and soak the fabric for approximately 5 to 30 minutes (depending on fabric or material density). Hot air dry.
  2. Spread fabric across level surface and apply a thin coat ofR eviveX with brush or squeegee. Distribute evenly to avoid puddling. Hot air dry.

NOTE: Hot air drying is necessary for maximum effectiveness and durability.


OEM_ThShield

Thunder Shield™ Spray-On Water Repellent is formulated from the highest quality food grade silicone available to provide a high level of water resistance on many types of fabrics and materials. The formula is CFC free.

Examples of Thunder Shield compatible materials: All types of fabric (excluding waterproof breathables); leather; synthetic leathers; suede.

Thunder Shield is available in an 11-1/2 oz. spray.

Use information for Thunder Shield

Ensure fabric is clean and free of release agents and other contaminants.

Hold can approximately 8 to 12 inches from material and spray an even coat. Allow to dry thoroughly before use. Spot test color sensitive materials.

LUBRICANTS

McNett lubricants protect and preserve moving parts such as zippers, O-rings, threaded parts and other fittings. Correct lubrication will extend the life and improve the performance of expensive components.


OEM_SilGrease

Silicone Grease 100% Pure Silicone Lubricant lubricates and conditions rubber products including O-rings, valve system components, hose attachments and moving parts. Ideal for sealing out moisture.

Silicone grease is available in 1/4 oz. and 1-1/2 oz. sizes. Call for additional sizes.

Ensure surfaces are free of sand and other debris. Apply modest amount evenly across item. Reapply as necessary.


OEM_ZipTech

Zip Tech™ High Performance, Stick Form Zipper Lubricant is a premier paraffin-free, silicone-free lubricant. The clear, semi-solid stick is the most sophisticated zipper lubricant formula available and is designed for all types of zippers on dry suits, environmental suits, wet suits and other equipment subject to submersion in water.

The universal formula is safe on all types of zippers and zipper skirts and gaskets including latex and synthetic rubber. Contains UV blockers. Paraffin and silicone free.

Examples of Zip Tech compatible materials: All types of metal, nylon and plastic zippers, other materials.

Zip Tech is available in a 1/2 oz. stick.

Use Information for Zip Tech

Apply to clean zippers (clean zippers with Zip Care? liquid). Coat teeth of zipper and move slider repeatedly across zipper to evenly distribute wax. Apply an extra dab on closing end to improve sealing. Reapply as needed or after each dive.


OEM_ZipCare

Zip Care™ Liquid Zipper Cleaner and Lubricant is a specialized silicone-free cleaning formula which also provides a light lubricant. The attached brush applicator removes dirt and debris and applies a liberal coat of Zip Care across the zipper.

Zip Care is not tacky when dry and thus is a universal zipper treatment ideal for equipment used on land as well as in the ocean.

Examples of Zip Care compatible materials: Wet suit, dry suit and environmental suit zippers; tents; gear bags; equipment zippers.

Zip Care is available in 2 oz. bottles with brush cap applicator.

Use information for Zip Care

Use brush in closed position to clean dirt and debris. With brush in open position, squeeze bottle and apply a modest amount of Zip Care to zipper. Close brush applicator if necessary to stop flow of liquid and continue to spread using brush.

Move zipper slider repeatedly across zipper to evenly distribute emulsion. Wipe away excess using disposable rag. Allow tent and other land use equipment zippers to dry before storing.

Reapply as necessary or after each dive.


OEM_MaxWax

Max Wax™ Silicone Based Stick Form Zipper Lubricant is a "hard wax" stick formula which delivers a highly effective light silicone coat to zippers, fasteners and other sliding connection points. The formula suspends silicone in a hard paraffin wax which allows easy application to most (including irregular) surfaces. The paraffin is designed to flake away leaving behind a light but effective silicone coat.

Examples of Max Wax compatible materials: Zippers; fasteners (including bolts and other hardware); interlocking joints.

Max Wax is available in 3/4 oz. sticks.

Use information for Max Wax

Apply Max Wax in a sliding motion to surface (zippers etc.). Chips of paraffin will be left behind. Operate zipper, flex or connect joint, etc. to cause paraffin chips to flake away. Light silicone coat will be left behind to lubricate surface. If zipper requires cleaning use Zip Care? Liquid Zipper Cleaner and Lubricant.


OEM_ProTalc

ProTalc™ Dry Lubricant. Use to ease entry into dry suits and to dust glued seams after curing.

Pro Talc is available in a 1/2 oz. sachet.

Tap sachet against surfaces to apply. Reapply as necessary.

OEM_X-TremeWash

ReviveX® Synthetic Fabric Cleaner. High tech cleaning formula removes dirt and grime and enhances the performance of all types of synthetic fabrics and insulation. Designed for sensitive waterproof breathable fabrics, leaves no pore-clogging residue. Rinses clean to enhance the performance and extend the life of factory applied water repellent treatments.

Examples of compatible materials: Nylons, polyesters and other synthetic fabrics and insulation, GORE-TEX® and other waterproof breathable laminates and coatings.

Available in 12 oz. bottles and gallons.

Use information for ReviveX Synthetic Fabric Cleaner

Regard item's manufacturer's instructions as final. The following information may also be useful.

Close all fasteners (zippers, pockets, etc.) on garments and equipment. Spot clean heavily soiled areas with direct application. Use just enough warm or cold water to completely submerge item. Add 3 capfuls (1/2 oz.) for 1-5 garments (jackets etc.), 6 capfuls (1 oz.) for 5-10 garments. Use 2 oz. (1/4 of 8 oz. bottle) for large sleeping bags or comforters. Follow garment manufacturers instructions for drying or air dry away from direct sunlight.


OEM_ThDown

ReviveX® Specialized Down Cleaner is the premier down insulation cleaning formula, restoring loft and warmth, enhancing performance and prolonging the life of down products. ReviveX cleans without detergents, preserving the natural oils in down and rinses clean leaving no residue. This special formula also provides excellent cleaning for both high tech and natural fabrics (such as those used on down garments, sleeping bags and comforters) removing stains and helping to restore water repellency and breathability.

Examples of ReviveX compatible materials: Down and feathers from all types of fowl.

Available in 12 oz. bottles and gallons.

Use information for ReviveX Down Cleaner

Regard down item manufacturer's instructions as final. The following information may also be useful.

Close all fasteners (zippers, pockets, etc.) on garments and equipment. Spot clean heavily soiled areas with direct application. Use just enough warm or cold water to completely submerge item. Add 3 capfuls (1/2 oz.) for down jackets, pillows or small garments. Use 2 oz. for large sleeping bags or comforters.

NOTE: Proper drying is essential for best results. For maximum loft and to avoid damage, use a large commercial air dryer on LOW HEAT. High heat or small (home) dryers can melt synthetic fabrics causing severe damage to item. Drying will take several hours—check progress periodically to avoid over heating. Do not allow nylon or other synthetic items to sit motionless in hot dryer drum. Dry thoroughly for maximum loft and to avoid mildew when stored. Open item and allow to air overnight before storage. Follow additional garment manufacturers instructions.

Mix 1/2 oz. per gallon of cold or warm water depending upon garment cleaning instructions. If item is delicate, as with neoprene items, wash by hand with kneading motion. Rinse thoroughly in fresh water. For spot cleaning use full strength on heavily soiled areas. For added conditioning add 1/2 oz. of Aquaseal Brand Silicone Pump to rinse water.

For inside of B.C.D.: Pour 1 oz. of B.C. Life through pressure inflator mouthpiece in B.C.D. Fill B.C.D 1/4 full with fresh water. Shake and tip B.C.D. to mix into all chambers. Drain and rinse thoroughly with fresh water. Repeat if necessary.

For outside of B.C.D.: Soak B.C.D. in diluted B.C. Life (1 oz. per gallon of water) for 10 minutes. Spot clean using B.C. Life full strength on soiled area. Rinse, drain and dry B.C.D. thoroughly before storage.

General Directions: Mix MiraZyme in sink or large container of water. Mixing ratio is flexible, can be as little as 1/2 oz. per 20 gallons or stronger if desired. Test for best results. Open any compartments on item to be treated. Soak item briefly, but long enough to saturate completely. Pay special attention to corners and other folds and crevices that may harbor mold, etc. Do not rinse. Remove and air dry all surfaces of treated item before storage.

For use on large or complex fabric items such as tents, boat covers, etc. Mix 2 oz. MiraZyme per 20 gallons of water. Open all compartments, turn item inside out (optional). Soak for 5 minutes, then remove. Do not rinse. Air dry until all surfaces are completely dry. MiraZyme is safe for most coated fabrics. Test item for color fastness before use.
