Jon Favereau Talks About Gwyneth Paltrow

I've been hearing and reading a lot of rumors about Gwyneth Paltrow breaking her leg. Let me set the record straight. Yes, she had a small fracture in her knee. No, she didn't injure herself on the set of Iron Man. Yes, she had surgery to repair it. No, it did not impact filming. I hope this clears things up. Thanks for your concern. She's back home and doing fine.
The movie is wrapped and the editor is assembling the first cut as I write this.
Robert is looking over my shoulder. He says hi. Source

Tyrese Talks Luke Cage

The movie version of Marvel's Luke Cage comic is still on, according to the man up for the title role, actor Tyrese Gibson. We caught up with Tyrese on the Transformers red carpet and he gave us an update on the project.
"We'll see, man," he says. "You know, they're doing the rewrites on it right now. I have not officially signed on to be a part of it, but they have me in mind, so I'm honored."
Transformers may have been a physical workout, but Tyrese told us that he'd have to step it up even more for Cage. "I'm gonna have to get my body at 199.99 percent," he says. "The Luke Cage fans are out there. I see the emails and the blogs -- they want the best for the character. Hopefully, I'll be that guy... if the script is right."

INTERVIEW: BENDIS ON RE-UPPING WITH MARVEL

In the flurry of news that hit over the Heroes Convention/WizardWorld Philly Weekend, one small nugget that was almost overlooked was that Brian Bendis has re-upped his exclusive contract with Marvel, having signed an agreement which will keep him at the company “well into the next decade.”
Bendis’ new contract with Marvel continues his relationship with the company that has seen his work appear in Marvel titles continuously since 2000.
“It’s something that I’m really excited about,” Bendis told Newsarama. “Not only has the company been really outstanding to me, allowing me to write how I want to write and letting me work with who I want to work with, so many people have been supportive of it in buying the books. I’m excited to continue the plans that we started and be able to deliver on the promises made in the books. That’s the best part of it. – continue with the Avengers, continue with Ultimate Spider-Man, and take on some new projects, as well as continue with my Icon book.”

Marvel HeroClix: Avengers Released

WizKids Inc. announced today the release of the Marvel™ HeroClix®: Avengers set, which continues the celebration of the fifth anniversary of HeroClix.
Avengers brings big changes to the HeroClix brand, which has become a staple in the hobby game community. Improving collectability and adding character cards, Avengers is completely compatible with all other HeroClix rules and characters. A new rarity scheme reflects the industry standard, using a colored set symbol on the figure’s base to indicate its rarity. Character cards give figures more thematic powers and abilities plus additional background information such as first appearances, real names, and notable events in the character’s history.
And never before has HeroClix offered consumers more value, with booster packs about 30 percent larger (to prevent damage to figures and cards) and an additional figure, bringing the total to five figures per pack. Avengers is available in booster packs (MSRP $9.99) that each contain five random miniature game figures with character cards and one feat card, bystander token or battlefield condition card.
WizKids’ Organized Play program* will support Avengers with a five-week tournament called “The Coming of Galactus™” world event. This will be the first opportunity players will have to play Avengers in a Sealed tournament environment.

BENDIS! - THE WRITER ON GAMES, COMICS, FILMS AND FANS

Wizard World Philladelphia guest of honor Brian Michael Bendis sat down with CBR amidst the hectic convention for an interview following his heavily attended “Brian Bendis Presents: Joe Quesada” panel. At the end of a long day, the superstar creator was exhausted and besieged by calls to his cell-phone, so as a mercy we agreed we would cover none of the topics he had spent the whole weekend discussing: Skrulls, Avengers, and his newly announced Marvel Comics title “Ultimate Origins.”
Instead, Brian gave us some candid answers on those aspects of his work less covered in the convention whirlwind, such as his creator-owned book “Powers,” his movie work, his creative influences and his unique fan base. Bendis also provided a little insight into his upcoming project “Daredevil: End of Days.” Read Full Interview

Forging The Fantastic: Tom Tataranowicz Talks Fantastic Four

MARVEL ANIMATION AGE/TOON ZONE NEWS: How did you come to work on Fantastic Four and what did your duties include?
TOM TARANOWICZ: My crew and I had just finished 65 Episodes of Biker Mice From Mars for New World Animation. That particular series had been very successful and had been the #1 syndicated show for a while.
Anyway, New World and Marvel Animation were basically the same company. Marvel had seemingly been unhappy with the first seasons of both Fantastic Four and Iron Man, an opinion which I must say that I concurred with. They had apparently liked what I and my crew had done with Biker Mice both creatively and quality-wise, and asked us to take over the second seasons of both Fantastic Four and Iron Man.
My official job title was as Supervising Producer. That meant that I was the one responsible for the re-vamp of the total look of the series, putting together what I wanted to be the season's stories and arcs for approval, selecting the crew, functioning as Voice Director and Supervising Story Editor, and overseeing and finalizing all of the scripts. I also supervised the Post Production among myriad other duties such as working with the Overseas studio, etc.
MAA/TZN: What steps did you take to improve the quality of the show from season one?
TARANOWICZ: I had really not cared much for the "robin's egg blue" costumes of the first season. While they accurately reflected the toy designs, I felt that they were, well... rather a bit on the wimpy side and lacked a certain "cool factor quotient" which I felt that Super Heroes should posses. I didn't want to get too retro and so pretty quickly zeroed in on the dark blue costumes that John Byrne had drawn for the FF in during the 1980's.

You Must Be This Tall To Ride This Ride

Jessica Alba Fantastic Four Star: long list of requirements for men
The Fantastic Four star Jessica Alba who is currently dating filmmaker Cash Warren knows what she likes in a man and has got a long list of requirements for the men in her life.
Jessica said “Firstly, anyone in a relationship with me has to learn that I’m just not going to be around all the time,” said the 26-year-old.
I suppose that is true men need to know where they stand from the start of a relationship even more so when you are an actress because travelling is a big part of the job.
Jessica said that “I love funny guys and I like a guy to be romantic and to be in touch with his feelings. He’s also got to be able to watch sport and hang out with my dad.”
Well that is not a lot to ask for in a guy well I don’t think so anyway but the bit about hanging out with her dad might scare some men because dads are said to be very protective over there daughters and like to check the boyfriend out for themselves to make sure they are good enough for there daughter.
Obviously Cash Warren has past her dad’s approval and has all the qualities that Jessica likes in a man.
So girls what do you look for in a man?

SURFS UP: CAREY TALKS "ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR"

Marvel Comics' Silver Surfer AKA Norrin Rad is currently catching cosmic waves on the silver screen, but this Wednesday the heroes of Marvel's Ultimate Universe will meet the Sentinel of the Spaceways as "Ultimate Fantastic Four" #43 hits stores. CBR News spoke with "Ultimate Fantastic Four" writer Mike Carey about the series.
The FF team the Surfer encounters in the Ultimate Universe is different from their 616 and silver screen counterparts in two very big ways: their physical ages (they're teenagers) and emotional age. "I don't think they are entirely mature," Carey told CBR News. "I think they're sort of very much learning as they go. Reed in particular is a conundrum because obviously, intellectually he's a giant in the world. Yet, he still is a teenager. He's still making it up as he goes along. He's young. He's passionate. He makes mistakes. Some of those mistakes are very significant and he has to live with the consequences. Read Full Story

For all that speed, none of his work suffers at all."

Sam Raimi May Not Helm 'Spider-Man 4'; Wants Electro, Vulture As Villains If He Does

'I just don't know what [my] future holds yet,' director says.
WESTWOOD, California — As of this week, "Spider-Man 3" is the 11th-highest-grossing film worldwide of all time — and like its web-headed hero, it's still climbing. The fans have spoken, the critics have been silenced and there's plenty more Peter Parker to come.
But in his first post-"Spidey 3" interview, series director Sam Raimi went out of his way to leave the door open for someone else to take the reins.
"Sony Pictures is going to be making many more 'Spider-Man' pictures," Raimi told MTV News Friday night. "I just don't know what [my] future holds yet."
In Los Angeles to honor young filmmakers whose Spidey spoofs won a contest sponsored by Target, Raimi admitted that the collection of eager-eyed directors reminded him of "better-looking, smarter versions of myself." With several of the winners' speeches referencing Raimi's '80s career of low-budget flicks like "Crimewave" and the "Evil Dead" movies, it was hard not to appreciate that Raimi had ascended to the opposite end of the spectrum.
But from what he told us after the ceremony, it sounds like the filmmaker is setting the stage to bow out while he's on top. "If I can't find the right story that would work for me and that I could tell really well, I would like someone else to tell that story," he said of the already-announced "Spider-Man 4."
Amending his statement, he added, "But if it's a great story and Sony will bring me back to the screen, I would love to." Read Full Story

PREVIEWS: GIANT SIZE MARVEL ADVENTURES: THE AVENGERS #1

In July two teams of titans collide in Giant-Size Marvel Adventures - The Avengers #1. Acclaimed scribe Jeff Parker and fan-favorite penciler Leonard Kirk (of Agents Of Atlas fame) take the Avengers back to the 1950’s for a team-up with the Agents of Atlas! To protect the present, the Avengers and Agents of Atlas must battle Kang the conqueror in the past.
“All-ages doesn’t have to mean “for kids,” and this series proves it,” said Dexter K Flowers of BrokenFrontier.com. “The line-up (including Storm, The Hulk, and Giant Girl) offers a little something for everyone, and the verbal chemistry, though light, full of banter (even among the villains), and often downright funny, also stays true to each character’s core.”
Ray Tate of SilverBulletComics.com said “(Jeff) Parker's wit and almost instinctive knowledge as to how the Avengers should work make the reader smile on nearly every page.”
Earth’s Mightiest Heroes get a blast from the past in Giant-Size Marvel Adventures - The Avengers #1, an extra sized adventure chock-full of Avengers-Action and some amazing extras, including reprints of classic Namora and Venus tales (from 1947’s Marvel Mystery Comics #82 & 1948’s Venus #1 respectively), complete with the rarely seen covers to those issues! The Agents of Atlas impressed fans and critics with their recent limited series—by Parker & Kirk—and now you can learn about the earliest adventures of two members!
Perfect for readers new and old, Giant-Size Marvel Adventures - The Avengers #1 is a book you don’t want to miss!

Jon Favreau Updates Myspace Page...Principal Photography Done

Principal photography ended with a huge bang as we filmed the final scenes of Iron Man in Caesar's Palace. As many of you already know, gambling is a casino's top priority. A production can not interfere with their cash cow. As a result, movies must shoot during the dead hours, no matter if it's Swingers or Rain Man. We were given a window of midnight to one the next afternoon to do all of our work. Part of our strategy to prepare for these ungodly hours was to stay up as late as possible the night before and sleep as late as possible. I did half the plan. The wrong half. I stayed out until 7AM and then woke up four hours later. After motoring through the delerium of a sleepless shooting marathon, I am proud to report that we have handily completed our movie on time and on budget. What a great way to end.
I would also like to thank Ceasars for their hospitality, generosity, and Swank accomodations. Source

MATT FRACTION ON A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING

Matt Fraction was a visible figure at Heroes Con in Charlotte recently. The acclaimed writer, who once worked at the Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find store, had returned to his alma mater with three Marvel books (Punisher War Journal, The Immortal Iron Fist, and the forthcoming The Order with Barry Kitson) and the first volume of an acclaimed Image series (Casanova) under his belt.
Fraction’s latest series, The Order, premieres in July and has been the focus of controversy that has nothing to do with the book, having been re-titled from The Champions when it was discovered that Heroic Publishing owned the trademark. The series, part of the “Initiative” storyline, deals with a Tony Stark-run group in California where already-famous people can become heroes…but anyone can be cut at any time, and no one can be on the team for more than a year.
When he wasn’t chatting up fans, looking through back issues or scooting around on adult-sized “wheelie” shoes, we sat down with Fraction for a spontaneous interview about the themes of The Order, meeting his artist for the first time, and because this is Matt Fraction, zombie hobos. We also found out where he got those shoes! Read Full Story

ENTER THE MARAUDERS: CAREY TALKS “X-MEN”

Marvel Comics' “X-Men” series will reach its milestone 200 th issue on June 27 th , but writer Mike Carey isn't celebrating by throwing his cast of characters a party. Instead, he's pitting them against a reformed and revitalized line-up of the Marauders, one of the most fearsome teams of villains ever to lock horns with the disciples of Charles Xavier. CBR News spoke with Carey about his plans for “X-Men” #200.
The X-Men running up against the Marauders in issue #200 will be bruised and battered, but not just physically. The events of “Condition Critical,” the previous storyline that wrapped with issue #199, have left the team at their lowest emotional point. “Even their victories turn into catastrophes,” Carey told CBR News.
One such catastrophe was the damage done to team leader Rogue's psyche when her powers were significantly altered; making her one of the most dangerous mutants in the Marvel Universe. Carey explained, “One touch from her is instant death, and she's hanging onto sanity by a very slender thread.” Read Full Story

MARVEL Studio Head Talks Future Movies

There is no question Marvel studios is on top of their game in recent years. Their franchises continue to impress audiences in transferring from comic book form to the big screen. Sure, there are the occasional misses with both critics and audiences but for the most part, they're on a roll with their perspective franchises. In the past, Marvel would sell the movie rights to their superheroes and graphic novels and there would be a hodgepodge of various big screen versions hitting the screen from different studios at any given time.
No more of that from Marvel. The studio has began a policy of taking over their movie rights and character storylines and staying in charge of their properties. If you include the equation that Marvel Studios is now maintaining more of that controlling grip on any future film adaptations of their films, it can only be more positive for Marvel and its leadership. KIRKMAN ON THE END OF ANT-MAN

Fans of Robert Kirkman and Phil Hester’s Irredeemable Ant-Man received some disappointing news last week when Marvel released their September solicits. You guessed it—Issue #12 is the foreseeable final issue of the Irredeemable Ant-Man series. Many fans have already begun to sport “Save Ant-Man” banners on message boards and on their personal websites in support of the diminutive series from Marvel Comics. Since its first issue, Ant-Man has slowly been developing a cult-like following with its voyeuristic shower-watching and absolutely deplorable, less-than-super-heroic leading man, Eric O’Grady. The Irredeemable Ant-Man has even garnered positive responses from critics of the medium across the board. Read Full Story

Interview with Don Payne, Pt 1

We had the great pleasure of meeting screenwriter Don Payne (The Simpsons, My Super-ex Girlfriend) last November whilst visiting the set of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The movie is now out in theaters, and so we thought we would catch up with Don and discuss the film a little further with him.
Can you talk about how you went about writing this film? 20th Century Fox has just offered you the film to write; how do you tackle a project like that?
You work closely with the director, the studio, and the producer. You try to give them what they want, while making sure it’s everything you loved about the FF – the action, the great characters, the gadgets, the dramatic and comedic moments, etc.
I had met with Marvel, Fox, and Tim Story individually long before I was hired to write the sequel. When they came to me and asked if I was interested in writing this, I was really intrigued because they wanted to include the SIlver Surfer this time around. They mentioned a few of the elements they wanted to include -- Doom, Silver Surfer, a wedding, etc. I came back to them with my take on the stuff they wanted to include in the story, and, after a little back and forth, I was hired on. TALKING WITH MARVEL EDITOR NICK LOWE

Well somebody pop open the champagne bottle and hand me a glass or three!
This interview has been over a year in the making. It began last February at MegaCon when I introduced myself to Marvel editor Nick Lowe and we decided to do an interview together.
We kept starting and stopping and kept in email contact for months, but the interview never quite happened. I even had the opportunity to meet Nick again when I had lunch with fellow Marvel editor Bill Rosemann and it didn't happen. It was getting ridiculous.
Now that it's finally happened, I need to buy a lottery ticket and buy some land in Florida before my luck changes.
I've always been fascinated with comic editors because they are pretty much just your normal comic fan, but with the power to pick and choose the creators that rock out your favorite comics. Who wouldn't want to do that? I might want to be a comic writer, but I secretly want to be an editor, too (think about it, Mark Waid writing and Dan Jurgens drawing "Superman"…oh my).

Len Wiseman on Wolverine

Len Wiseman has already made a name for himself with the success of the "Underworld" movies and next Wednesday, his take on the "Die Hard" franchise, Live Free or Die Hard will open globally. Since he's already in good with 20th Century Fox, we wondered whether he'd be interested in helming the Wolverine prequel for which he'd been rumored as one of the contenders to direct.
