PSJA expects Las Milpas school to be delayed

August 7, 2007 - 6:56PM

PHARR — PSJA schools officials say the new elementary school in Las Milpas will be opened one week later than expected.

In the meantime, its students will temporarily attend classes elsewhere, said Robert Loredo, PSJAÂ’s assistant superintendent for administration and school operations.

The districtÂ’s students are slated to start school Aug. 27., but the district does not expect the new South Pharr Elementary to be ready by then. Instead, the district is planning to welcome students to the school Sept. 3.

District officials are discussing where to house the students during that first week of school. The most likely option is for them to temporarily attend classes in new classroom additions built at several other district schools, Loredo said.

PSJA had hoped construction crews would be able to catch up and complete South Pharr Elementary in time for the new school year. But this summerÂ’s rain, as well as problems securing steel for the project, slowed the progress.

This comment is for Rosita. Apparently you do not know which way is up. If you have a problem then you should take it up with senior staff instead of writing comments on the Monitor. That is way too funny. You are probably some uneducated lady who loves to criticize and never say anything positive. Loredo is doing the best he can under the circumstances Why don't you be brave and write your real name?

This project isn't anywhere close to being finished. It'll probably take another four to five months for this shcool to be fully operational. Who are we trying to kid? I would recommend these contractors start working weekends and night shifts, or else start paying penalties. Enough excuses already! I've been out there and it looks bad. Dr. King don't put up with the malarkey, tell those contractors to put their money where their mouth is. Loredo step aside, apparently you don't even know which way is up.
