Though this is in part due to general performance improvements in the foundation of KDE 4 and the higher efficiency of newer versions of Qt, there is a resource-friendly ideology at play in the development of Plasma.

Second Plasma screen cast appears, RandR 1.2 lands in KDE

Why Dolphin is a Good Choice for KDE4
I've always been a big fan of Konqueror so when I heard that Dolphin was going to be the new default file manager for KDE4 I was disappointed. But after researching the decision further and actually giving Dolphin a try, I'm a convert.

KIO - the killer app for KDE
For example, there is a slave for SFTP transfer, one for FTP, another for Windows file, sharing (SMB) and so on. What this means in a practical sense is that all KDE applications can access information from all these file systems transparently, as if it was a local file.
