KDE Gets Prettier and Lighter

KDE's Plasma is heating up

As it currently stands, Plasma is less resource-intensive than its KDE 3 counterparts. Though this is in part due to general performance improvements in the foundation of KDE 4 and the higher efficiency of newer versions of Qt, there is a resource-friendly ideology at play in the development of Plasma.

Second Plasma screen cast appears, RandR 1.2 lands in KDE

The latest Commit Digest issue comes along with the second Plasma screen cast, this time explaining data engine code. Also, several games moved from review to the main module, and first work at RandR 1.2 support begins for kcontrol.

Why Dolphin is a Good Choice for KDE4

I've always been a big fan of Konqueror so when I heard that Dolphin was going to be the new default file manager for KDE4 I was disappointed. But after researching the decision further and actually giving Dolphin a try, I'm a convert.

KIO - the killer app for KDE

For example, there is a slave for SFTP transfer, one for FTP, another for Windows file, sharing (SMB) and so on. What this means in a practical sense is that all KDE applications can access information from all these file systems transparently, as if it was a local file.
