The American Scene: Sunday Paintings 1/16/07 – 3/4/07
Amateur art flourished during the period between the end of the Civil War and the beginning of World War I. “Weekend” painters often depicted the vanishing American wilderness following the form of their professional counterparts of the Hudson River School. The landscapes, seascapes and genre paintings of the time are depicted in this exhibition of works by largely anonymous painters.
