Brown must change Government course on public services and workplace justice, says TUC
TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber has told the Unite annual conference in Bournemouth that Labour under Gordon Brown must “re-engage a public sector workforce thoroughly demoralised by an endless cycle of reform, restructuring and reorganisation” and “revisit a faith in flexible labour markets that leaves one in five workers vulnerable and many more insecure” to rebuild the winning coalition of 1997.

TUC challenges London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority to support the London Living Wage
The TUC and London Citizens today challenged the members of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) to ensure that the London Living Wage of £7.20 per hour is paid as a minimum to the fire authority's cleaners. Currently, those people who clean fire stations are typically paid the national minimum wage, of £5.35 per hour.

Markets are not way forward for public services
Commenting on the Government's policy review paper on public service reform published today (Monday) TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said: 'The Government has every right to be proud of the extra investment that has allowed public servants to deliver better services, and ministers deserve praise for their part in producing a new consensus that values public service over tax cuts. And while sometimes hidden in jargon, there are welcome parts of this paper.

Put NHS back on track, Barber tells NHS march
TUC General Secretary, Brendan Barber, is to tell an NHS Together march in Sheffield today (Saturday) that the Government is in danger of squandering the political credit it has earned for its investment in the NHS and the better patient care that NHS staff are now delivering.

NHS Together in the South East says ‘NHS is at a critical turning point'
Across Britain NHS employees will be joining together to take part in rallies, marches, candlelit vigils and street theatre performances on Saturday 3 March. Doctors, nurses, hospital cleaners, midwives, physiotherapists and radiographers in the East of England will be amongst the thousands of NHS staff marking a national day of action in defence of the health service in across the UK. NHS staff believe that the NHS is at a critical ‘turning point'. Numerous events have been organised by NHS Together supporters in the South East at which hundreds of NHS workers will gather to express their concerns and to hear about union's plans for the next steps in this ongoing campaign to defend the NHS.

Across Britain NHS employees will be joining together to take part in rallies, marches, candlelit vigils and street theatre performances on Saturday 3 March. Doctors, nurses, hospital cleaners, midwives, physiotherapists and radiographers in London will be amongst the hundreds of NHS staff marking a national day of action in defence of the health service in across the UK. NHS staff believe that the NHS is at a critical ‘turning point'. London NHS Together has organised a campaign rally at Friends Meeting House. As many as a thousand NHS workers will gather to express their concerns and to hear about union's plans for the next steps in this ongoing campaign to defend the NHS.
