Exclusive: Smallville Snags Hidden Hunk

Stop the presses — Smallville has found its new "Daily Planet" editor!

Sources confirm that Michael Cassidy (Hidden Palms, The O.C.) has scored the top job, replacing Carrie Fisher's barely visible Pauline Kahn. Cassidy will appear in at least six episodes and, as I reported in early June, his character is being groomed as a love interest for Lois Lane.

Curiously, the role originally called for a thirtysomething actor. Cassidy, however, is a ripe 24. Wonder what that's about. Feel free to post your theories (and/or general reaction to the casting of Cassidy) in the super convenient comment section below.

According with K-Site he maight be indeed a Junior Editor.

And yes David Anders was 20/21 when he was in Alias (JJ said it on one of the comentaries of season 2 DVD and everybody was shocked in how someone that young coul pull off a character like Sark) and yes that it is not his voice..that's an acted voice.

Since David Anders on Alias I learned not to judge a character by its actor age.

And I have seen Cassidy act in Hidden Palms and he is really good, if this editor is a bad guy he could do it really good.

About him and Erica Durance well he looks older in some photos and he has the voice of an older man so with make up and wardrobe he can look a little bit older or as the smae as ED. we compared two photos of her and him on the CW upfronts and the age diference isen't obvious.

But since in Smallville that sucky make up department make Erica always look older than the rest with that make up I guess they should use the same forumla in Cassidy jsut a litlle cause he has the looks to pass as a mid/late 20s guy

BTW They should let Erica do her own make up cause in candids she looks AMAZING not that I think she is really beatiful on the show too but in ral lfe she is even more beautiful if that is possible.

A minor county paper, nevermind major paper, is NOT going to have an Editor who is 24!!!! Either this kid will have some major nepotism in hiS corner from someone who doesn't give a d@mn about sales, quality or reliabily or this is simply a story gimmick. I can believe another fledgling reporter, but, not editor. I say bring back Michael McKean!

Obviously he won't be 24 on the show...maybe a little more all depends how old thay can make him look like

Great choice. This young man can act; he can pull this off because he has talent and personality. Forget this so-called real world stuff - this is a fantasy and Smallville has added great depth and dimension to the Superman era. I have seen all stages of this saga and this show beats them all! Give this actor a break, he can do this.

If the show would stick closer to history (the comics) the only other super heroes Superboy would hook up with is the teenage superheroes of the future--"The Legion of Superheroes" (yes, I'm showing the world my true geekatude) I would like to see that--and please tell me there is at least ONE other person out there that has heard of them!

Wow, I'm SO disappointed in this casting! He's TOO young and oh LORD, the last thing we need is ANOTHER love interest for Lois! OMG, get her with Clark already! The red kryptonite episode where she and Clark almost got busy proved that their chemistry is way beyond any chemistry Tom and Kristen used to have. It's the last season, for cryin' out loud! Get Clark together with Lois before it ends. It won't seem at all as if the series has been wrapped up unless that happens. On the other hand, maybe the producers are bucking for a movie. SO disappointing...

BTW, Mr Furley, I LOVED the Legion when I was still collecting comic books. Best series EVAH!

They need to bring Oliver back for Lois, not some new guy. Justin was hot, and more importantly, a good actor.

Clark needs to move on from that horrible, self-centered Lana. Bring on a new love interest for Clark, or get him together with Chloe (who is more like the iconic Lois Lane than the dumb bimbo Lois that Smallville is giving us now)

Yes, Have2Dogs, I used to read Adventure comics, and have often said that if Superboy/Clark is interacting with any other superheroes, it should be them!

That said, given that the show has a multitude of creative problems and that S6 was a travesty beyond belief, I'll forgive 'em just about anything and say: bring on Hottie McEditor!...

if only Lana frickin' Lang is gone for good. Her role has been ridiculously inflated in this series and spoiled the show for many of us.

If she does come back, at LEAST let Clark realize she's not the girl for him and finally decide to move on.

Michael McKean, Annette O'Toole's husband, was a terrific Perry White. I can't understand why they are going so young for the part. Just because we suspend our disbelief while watching a show about a superhero doesn't mean we don't have standards.

Something just popped into my mind. You know how the tear supposedly saved Lois? What if that tear was actually Chloe! If they can get Erica to actually pull off Allison's Chloe then that would kill two birds with one stone. We all know Chloe is the best!, but the comics say he's supposed to be with Lois. So we'll split the difference!

Hot young editor + Love interest for Lois = early and probably grisly death. If this is the last season, they need to bring Michael McKean back for at least an episode or two as Perry White.

I'd say that the CW probably has a holding deal on Cassidy and had to use him in something or pay him for not working. He's not right for the role at all. But they didn't ask the public, so we can only hope that he's not too bad or takes us out of the show by being obviously too young and not right for the role.
