The UNISON Sheffield Steelers are delighted to confirm that David Matsos will again coach the team next season in the bmibaby Elite League.

Steelers owner Bob Phillips said “Dave has done extremely well in his rookie year as a head coach of Sheffield, despite many difficulties brought upon by his late appointment at the end of July last year and having only 6 weeks to assemble a full squad.

”For the first time in many years, our head coach will have the opportunity of recruiting throughout the summer and selecting players he knows will fit in with his style of play and commit to him and the club as team players. Everyone at the club is delighted in what Dave has brought to the club and we all wish him well leading up to the playoffs and in his first full season as the Sheffield Steelers Head Coach next year”.

David Matsos said “I’m delighted to be returning to the Steelers, I always though of this job as a long term project, building a core group of people that would lead this club to the success it deserves

”I have a summer, not 6 weeks, to look at exactly what we need to improve from our present position into Champions, the club has moved forward this season in its points total and league position, we will improve on that again next season

”I have been fortunate to work along side a great group of people both on and off the ice, all of us at the club are just so committed to making this club great once again and seeing championships return here"
