If you are buying the ring as a surprise, the chances are you will need to find out the ring size on the quiet. You can often do this by finding a ring that she already wears on her third finger. You can then take this into a jeweller to be checked for size.

Another way is to try the ring on and mark your finger where the ring comes to. Take a ring sizer (often available free from many jewellers) and measure around this area.

Consider her tastes......

Does she wear yellow gold, or white gold already. If she wears both, it is possible to buy yellow and white gold combined in jewellery. If it is white gold, then you have the choice of white gold or platinum. Platinum is much harder, more precious and purer, and comes with a higher price tag. It is also naturally hypoallergenic.

Maybe strolling past a jewellers she has already pointed out the type of design she likes. If not, it should take little prompting for her to do this. Act indifferent, but soak up everything she tells you!

Chose the stone....
