Founded in 1980, the NZ Native Forests Restoration Trust is New Zealand's leading organisation involved in forest restoration.

Since then, the Trust has acquired land at the rate of 250ha a year to protect important species, restore their habitats and to improve the quality of our waterways. It now has 25 reserves throughout the North Island with a total of nearly 6,000ha of protected native forests.

As always, ongoing costs of reserve maintenance need to be met and such help is constantly sought and highly valued. If you would like to lend a hand in any way, please contact us.

The Trust is indebted to the Stout Trust for giving us both confidence and financial support during the campaign to persuade the NZ Government to assist in buying Motu Kaikoura Island. We could not have undertaken the project without their underwriting our potential costs . We are grateful to have been able to create this website and that of the Motu Kaikoura Trust with funding from the Stout Trust.
