BRITISH COLUMBIA LIONS HISTORY

 TEAM HISTORICAL Hi-LITES:

1941

 - the Vancouver Grizzlies play a single season in the Western Inter-provincial Football Union.

1952

 - application made to the WIFU for a football team in Vancouver.

1953

 - first annual meeting of the British Columbia Lions.

1954

 - B.C. Lions play their first-ever game Saturday, August 28 vs. Winnipeg in EMPIRE STADIUM.

 - By Bailey scored the first-ever touchdown in an 8-6 loss to the Blue Bombers.

 - first (and only) win of the season came September 18, with a 9-4 triumph over Calgary, with Bailey scoring

    the winning touchdown.

1964

 - Following an 11-2-3 season, the Lions win their first Grey Cup against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. A

two-touchdown, two-way starring performance by Bill Munsey, Kapp and Fleming, and a touchdown from the

field goal unit led the Lions to a 34-24 victory.

1970

 - The first artificial turf in Canada was installed at Empire Stadium.

1982

 - Team moves into BC PLACE.

1985

 - Lions defeat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 37-24 at Olympic Stadium in Montreal to capture their second Grey Cup

    championship.

1994

 - before a home-town crowd at BC Place, and with no time remaining, Lui Passaglia kicks the winning field goal

to give the Lions an incredible 26-23 victory over the heavily-favoured Baltimore CFL, the third Grey Cup

    in team history.

2000

 - Lions win their fourth Grey Cup, defeating the Montreal Alouettes 28-26 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.

2006

 - Lions win their fifth Grey Cup, defeating the Montreal Alouettes 25-14 in the 94th Grey Cup in Winnipeg.
