Pie Menus Demonstration in Java

I have been surprised at the number of people who have written me, since this Web site was created, to express their interest in Pie Menus. This interest was sufficiently wide-spread that it resulted in the creation of such pages as the screen shots from my demonstrator programs, which were added to the site because of requests from folks who were not running Windows/Intel equipment.

With the advent of Sun's cross-platform language, "Java", I decided that this was the ideal situation to produce a Pie Menus demonstrator that people using almost any microprocessor system could run to try Pie Menus out for themselves. Things didn't quite work out that way as you will see, but I learned a lot about "Java" along the way, and also produced a pair of demonstrator programs that show off Pie Menus in a form that is different from my Windows and DOS demonstrations and more like the original concept as envisioned by Don Hopkins, et. al.

First, there are two "Java" demonstrator programs. You can find them here:

Pie Menus Demonstrator in Java for JDK 1.0.2

Pie Menus Demonstrator in Java for JDK 1.1

If you have not downloaded Sun's appletviewer for JDK 1.1 or have the latest copy of HotJava on your system, then you must have Netscape Navigator 3.0, Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0, or Sun's appletviewer 1.0.2 on your system and choose the link for JDK 1.0.2. As far as I am aware at the moment, only Sun's appletviewer (that comes with JDK 1.1.1) or the latest HotJava can display class libraries compiled with JDK 1.1.

BUT! Before you jump to one of the demonstrators, you might want to take a look at the tables below. I am fortunate in having friends in the academic world of computer science, so I can ask for testers who run many different types of systems.
