Christopher John Dodd (born May 27, 1944) is an American lawyer and politician from Willimantic, Connecticut. He is a member of the Democratic Party, served as U. S. Representative from Connecticut, and is currently a U. S. Senator from Connecticut. He has been the state's senior Senator since 1989 and is a candidate for the 2008 presidential election.



Dennis Kucinich - D

Ohio

Dennis John Kucinich (born October 8, 1946) is an American politician of the Democratic party. He served as the 53rd mayor of Cleveland, Ohio from 1977 to 1979, a tumultuous term in which he survived a recall election and was successful in a battle against selling the municipal electric utility. He today serves as the Representative (Member of Congress) for the 10th District of Ohio.

He is the Chairman of the U.S.

Johnny Reid "John" Edwards (born June 10, 1953) was the Democratic nominee for Vice President in 2004, and a one-term U.S. Senator from North Carolina. On December 27, 2006, he announced his entry into the 2008 Presidential election.

Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton (born October 26, 1947) is the junior United States Senator from New York and a member of the Democratic Party. She is married to Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, and was the First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001. She is a lawyer and a former First Lady of Arkansas.

Tommy George Thompson (born November 19, 1941), a United States politician, was the 7th U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and the 42nd Governor of Wisconsin. On April 1, 2007 he announced on This Week that he is a candidate for the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election.

Colorado

Thomas Gerard "Tom" Tancredo (born December 20, 1945) is a former history teacher and is an American politician from the Republican Party. He has been a member of the United States House of Representatives since 1999, representing the 6th Congressional District of Colorado, which includes most of Denver's southern suburbs.



Ron Paul - R

Texas

Ronald Ernest “Ron” Paul (born 20 August 1935) is an American physician, congressman and presidential candidate from the U.S. state of Texas. A Republican, he has represented Texas's 14th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1997, and had previously served as the representative from Texas's 22nd district in 1976 and from 1979 to 1985.



Duncan Hunter - R

California

Duncan Lee Hunter (born May 31, 1948) is an American politician who has been a Republican member of the House of Representatives since 1981 from California's 52nd congressional district in northern and eastern San Diego. It was previously numbered the 42nd District from 1981 to 1983 and then the 45th District from 1983 to 1993.

Michael Dale "Mike" Huckabee (born August 24, 1955) was the governor of the U.S. state of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007. He was the third Republican governor of the state since Reconstruction. In November 2005, Time named him one of the five best governors in the U.S.

Gilmore was born in Richmond, Virginia to Margaret Evelyn Kandle and James Stuart Gilmore, Jr., a grocery store meat cutter. He graduated from John Randolph Tucker High School and received an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in 1971. After a three-year tour as a U.S.

John Sidney McCain III (born August 29, 1936) is an American Republican politician, currently the senior U.S. Senator from Arizona. He was a presidential candidate in the 2000 election, but was defeated in the Republican primary by current President George W. Bush.

Michael Newdow, the lawyer, physician and First Amendment activist whose legal challenge to the inclusion of “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance reached the U.S. Supreme Court in 2004, and Chuck Douglas, a former NH Supreme Court Justice and former member of the U.S. House, will address the legal issues surrounding the wording of the Pledge and other First Amendment questions on Saturday, August 18 at 10 a.m. in the Ware Campus Center at Colby-Sawyer College in New London.

This event is part of the New Hampshire Humanities Council’s Shifting Ground: Religion and Civic Life in America initiative exploring the intersections between religion and public life in our nation.
