This thread is dedicated to past, present, and future Char-Griller owners. ItÂ’s also helpful for anyone considering buying an excellent over all combination Grill/smoker. ItÂ’s a true 2 in 1 unit. If youÂ’re considering the leap to charcoal cooking, this unit will give both options: Grilling with charcoal and smoking with charcoal.
First a brief description:
The Char-Griller is a drum/barrel type smoker/ grill. The main chamber cooking surface measures 20”X30”, the warming rack adds 10”X27” of space. The main chamber also comes with an adjustable charcoal pan. The charcoal pan makes it possible to grill in the main chamber without contaminating it with ashes. This is a helpful feature, because it will allow the user to convert it to a smoker without having to do a lot of cleaning and scrubbing. The charcoal pan has eight adjustable levels. The purpose of adjustment is to provide the user with different temp control without having to move the cooking grates or shifting the coals. The grill comes with four cast iron grates that can be used in many configurations based on needs.
Here is a link with detailed description of the grill portion: http://www.chargriller.com/superpro.html
This grill also comes with an optional side firebox that converts it easily to an excellent smoker. Many users noticed how well toned this smoker to the 225-degree mark, itÂ’s almost effortless. Here is a link to the grill with the side firebox: http://www.chargriller.com/smokinpro.html
There are many available accessories for this grill here is the link:
http://www.chargriller.com/accessories.html
If youÂ’re considering buying a smoker/grill, here is a link for a comparison chart:
http://www.chargriller.com/chart.html
Since weÂ’ve had many discussions and tips on this grill, I thought IÂ’d combine all of them under one thread. This way new users wonÂ’t have to search too long to find answers. Pleas if I left anything out, feel free to add as many links and tips as you can find.
I should mention that I donÂ’t work nor IÂ’m affiliated with the Char-Griller Company. I just love this grill/smoker.

WeÂ’re trying to get a count of how many board members have a Char-Griller. Please let us know if you have one and if youÂ’ve attached a side firebox to it yet.
IÂ’ll start the count:

Woohoo I'm #2!!! Laughing Laughing - Char Griller with side firebox. Excellent grill and smoker. I believe it is probably the most versatile set-up you can buy - and you can't beat the price!!

I totally agree! I love my chargriller. Best buy ever. Never knew what BBQ was before this. What a shame. I have to thank this board and everyone here (esp. Z) for helping me decide on the Chargriller.

I also have firebox attached (never used it without)

Yup, I just got my Chargriller from Menards in Minot for $90 this week. I love it. Really well put together especially for the price. I wish I could have found a side smoker box around a bit cheaper though but I had to order the box directly from Char-Grill for another $60. In any case, since I got it, I've done a lot of grilling with it while our Sunbeam gas grill has just been sitting on the rear deck not really being used. Great grills. Smile

If I may suggest something to all the Char-Griller family, in the future if any of you have a question or a comment or a tip that would help with this grill, can we post them on this thread?
This way others can refer to this thread every time they have a question and wouldnÂ’t have to search too long for answers. Let us know if all in agreement.
Thanks

This is what Brisket Man wrote, and I agree with him:

A Chargiller's forum? Can't wait! I've spent all morning trying to find the links and threads that I've read on various topics for the CG (or Q'n in general) that I want to keep track of, and then comes along the Z with the idea to make the process easier and more user-specific via a forum just for us. The biggest problem I've had in keeping track of ideas and tips is that a thread starts off on Subject X and in the middle of it comes a comment on Subject Y - and Y is the one I want to recall but can't find cause it's buried in Subject X thread. Bet the CG forum and Z's structure of hints and references will be the ticket.

thanks guys!

I have had the Char-griller for over 2 years and I just started to really work with it this year. I am kicking myself in the pants now. My wife loves the fact that I am much more willing to cook. I have the side box, too.

Well, i'll be #9. I just finished putting it together. Knocking out the baffle was a booger bear, but I prevailed. I haven't even seasoned this thing yet, & I love it already. Z, thanks for turning me on to this setup & all the tips. I printed your seasoning tips, so I'll have them with me, while I'm doing it. This thread is just what we needed. I wish I had worn some gloves, as the wax or whatever it is on it, is nasty & sticky. Desolve it took care of that. Happy Chargrillin. Very Happy

Sorry guys. That was me. Is there any way to make this thread a sticky, so it don't get lost in the shuffle?
