Monday 16th July sees the official opening of the new Finch Road Park in Lozells by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Randal Brew. Local children from Heathfield Primary School and Mayfield Special School will be taking part in a series of activities in the new park and performing a ribbon dance and football song for the Lord Mayor!

The new park consists of two Multi Use Games Areas – MUGA’s which will cater for children of different ages and are marked out for football, basketball and other team games. There is also a play area for younger children, a teen shelter and the rest of the site is landscaped, creating the area’s only mini urban park. The park is already proving to be hugely popular with local children and families.

The land used to create the park had been in a derelict and overgrown state for a number of years. Residents and councillors had long campaigned for some form of community resource and following consultation with local people it was eventually agreed that a new park would be developed.

Funding for the park has come from the City Council, SRB 6 and local ward Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
