March 30, 2006

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville field hockey team earned the 2005 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Team Award. The Cardinals were ranked first in the nation with a 3.65 GPA.

"I am so proud of the academic efforts this team continues to put forth from semester to semester," said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. In addition to the team award, the Cardinals placed a nation-high 20 student-athletes on the 2005 NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, which consisted of players with GPAs of 3.0 or higher. U of L's national academic squad members include: Janelle Avila, Missy Briery, Casey Diener, Lauren Groff, Marie-Claire Heller, Carrie Jackson, Jessica Javelet, Sara Jerousek, Jen Kastelic, Bet Latham, Laken Letellier, Allison Maffitt, Casey Meizinger, Jen Payne, Andrea Roussel, Lauren Schaefer, Courtney Shepstone, Julie-Ann Smith, Lisa Wasser and April White.

"Our entire team kept up with their coursework through all of the flight delays, long weekends, and late night arrivals home," said Bustin. "They are the model of pride and dedication for every student-athlete."
