Which Health Insurance Quotes are Right for You?

If you’ve already begun your health insurance quotes search, you’ve probably run into the alphabet soup of terms that the health insurance industry uses as its everyday lingo. Once you understand what each plan entails, you’ll be much better prepared to make your decisions. There are four basic types of health insurance plan: Fee-For-Service (FFS), Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), POS (Point of Sale) and PPO (Preferred Provider Organization). If you have an FFS plan, you’ll be able to pick any health care provider or hospital you prefer, and go to specialists without referrals from a primary care physician (PCP). However, you will be responsible for paying a deductible before your insurance kicks in. HMOs are the least expensive but least flexible type of health insurance. They require you to pick a primary care physician, get referrals, and only go to doctors within the network. POS plans are more flexible, but still require a primary care physician and referrals – however, you may receive “out of network” benefits to offset the cost of visits to doctors not registered with the insurance company. Finally, PPOs required co-pays with doctor visits and on prescriptions, but you may see any specialists without referrals, as long as they are in-network. Out-of-network benefits may also exist in PPO plans.

Now that you know the basics, how can you choose among the health insurance quotes you’ll be given? The best advice is to fill out the health insurance quote request form on our partner site here. Always be honest about pre-existing conditions such as smoking, past illnesses, etc. – if you don’t tell the truth at the beginning, you can lose your insurance later when the company finds out.
