The USA's 2007 Pan-American Games team won its final three games to earn fifth place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The U.S. defeated tournament favorite Argentina, 74-71, on July 27, then easily beat the U.S. Virgin Islands team 84-58 on July 28, and capped the Games with a come-from-behind win over Panama, 77-74, on July 29.
The USA's Pan-American Games team, led by Villanova head coach Jay Wright, lost its opening round game 81-72 to Uruguay on July 25 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The USA's U19 team remained perfect with a 78-75 come-from-behind win over France on July 21. It was the second time the U.S. has beaten France at the 2007 FIBA World Championships, and the win put the Americans in the gold medal game against host Serbia.
Sophomore guard David Cubillan of the Marquette University men's basketball program has been named to the Venezuelan National Team and will represent his country at the upcoming FIBA Americas Championship 2007.
The USA's U19 team continued its hot streak at the 2007 FIBA World Championships on Friday, defeating Argentina 112-86. The U.S. will now face the winner of the France vs. Spain quarterfinal on Saturday for the right to play in Sunday's championship game.
