Cirque du Soleil to Perform at the 74th Academy Awards®

Beverly Hills, CA - Cirque du Soleil will present a unique performance at the 74th Academy Awards, show producer Laura Ziskin announced today. This will be the avant garde Cirque's first time performing on an Oscar telecast offering a "tailor-made" presentation.

"Cirque du Soleil will be performing a piece that is a salute to a particular aspect of film we will be honoring," said Ziskin. "I'm not going to say exactly what they're planning, but I can tell you that it will include a film element and will be spectacular and original."

For the first time, thirty artists from five Cirque du Soleil productions will come together on Oscar Night to perform the salute to music composed by Benoit Jutras and choreographed by Debra Brown.

Cirque du Soleil productions have been performed for nearly 30 million people worldwide. From humble beginnings as street performers, Cirque du Soleil, based in Montreal , Canada, offers a unique style of performance combined with original music and unusual costumes that make for an altogether new experience.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2001 will be presented on Sunday, March 24, 2002, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland® and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5:30 p.m. (PST).
