Established in 1997, the
Center for Catholic Studies
is dedicated to promoting scholarly dialogue about the
Catholic tradition and all areas of contemporary culture.
The Center sponsors nationally renowned speakers and
programs promoting an understanding of the Catholic faith
and its role in the world.
The Center also includes:
-
The Institute on Work,
which advances the vision of Vatican II by
partnering with government and employers to
bring justice and healing to the workplace.
-
The G.K. Chesterton Institute
for Faith & Culture, which promotes the
intellectual thought of writer, theologian and
philosopher G.K. Chesterton and his circle. More
broadly, it explores the application of
Chestertonian ideas in the contemporary world.
It also publishes the prestigious Chesterton
Review, a widely respected academic quarterly.
The Center’s programs are expanding rapidly. The increased
number of students majoring in Catholic Studies, the
growing list of publications and conferences produced by the
Chesterton Institute and the volume of services and
resources being made available to workers in New Jersey from
the Institute on Work has severely stretched the Center’s
current fiscal and spatial capacity.
To consolidate the three components of the Center into a
central location and to accommodate the Center’s speedy
growth, a permanent facility is crucial. This new home will
provide a fixed identity and opportunities for new synergies
between the three components of the Center for Catholic
Studies.
In addition, funds are needed for endowments for faculty
development, scholarships, study abroad programs,
publications and educational programs. These endowments will
allow for student growth and development as they deepen
their understanding of the Catholic faith and its role in
intellectual, spiritual and social life.
