Open Meeting at Haddington

The Rages Rag issue 10 led with the possibility of re-opening Haddington station for £9m.

Following this, at the end of September 2001, RAGES was invited to attend a meeting of the Haddington Community Council to discuss this possibility, which would allow trains to once more run from East Lothianís county town to Edinburgh.

The meeting consisted of a slide presentation describing RAGESí aims, its progress to date and our case for the re-opening.

This was well received by the Council and it was agreed to hold an open meeting such that we can gauge the public response and support to such a project.

The meeting was held on Wednesday 7th November 2001. Around 100 people attended. Both heavy and light rail options were presented, with presentations by RAGES, East Lothian Council Transport, Haddington and District Community Council and our local MSP.

A good question and answer session followed, with some residents near to the proposed route being concerned about safety and house values.

There has been no further progress. With the various infrastructure problems and changes of ideas within the SRA, this re-opening is not at the top of the list. However, RAGES has not forgotten about it!
