What is a podcast?
Podcasts are audio or video files that are automatically delivered directly to your computer, and can be transferred to your iPod, Zune or other portable media player. You can subscribe to as many podcasts as you want — simply select the podcast below, subscribe to it in your podcast software and the audio or video will come to you automatically. If you're familiar with RSS, simply think of podcasting as RSS for audio and video.
Must you subscribe?
No. You may also manually download the current episode of any of our podcasts by right-clicking the file type button (MP3 for audio, and MP4 or WMV for video) and saving to your PC.
How can I use podcasts?
First, you will need to install a “podcatcher,” podcasting client software that downloads the audio or video automatically to your computer. Once the podcatcher software is set up to access MSNBC.com, it will continually poll the MSNBC.com podcast feeds for the latest updates. What audio format does MSNBC.com use?
All MSNBC.com audio podcasts are available in .mp3 format, and will work with virtually any audio player software or portable MP3 player such as the iPod, Zune, Creative Zen, etc. We may add other audio formats in the future, so stay tuned.
What video format does MSNBC.com use?
Our video podcasts are currently available in two file formats: MP4 and WMV. Choose whichever best suits your PC or portable device. For the video podcast feeds, the "POD" and "iTunes" links are the MP4-based feed, while the "Zune" link is the WMV-based feed.
