These databases contain people who have a connection with the City of Coventry, some maybe criminals, other's owned property, many just passed through but stayed just long enough to end up on a document.

During my research into my own family history, I very soon discovered that once your got passed the 1881 census, which is fully indexed, onto the 1851, which if your lucky and they lived in either Devon, Norfolk or Warwickshire, is on a  C.D. Rom, the making of the connection from 1881 to 1851 within a family so quick, if you have a ancestor bridging the 30 year gap between the census's.

BUT, then you have to start some real research as the 1871, 1861, and 1841 census's are not indexed for Coventry [at this time]

All this does not put any 'Meat on the bones', so you end up with a family history which I call a 'BUD' list, [ Born, Undiscovered, Dead], O/K so you have a few children and possibly a marriage [or two], but nothing about what the people did, where they lived, what the place looked like, where were the local shops/pub/church, what did Coventry look like in 1900, 1800,or 1700, did they have a sewer near to them, or like most have the pit cleaned out once a fortnight ?, What were the rules under which they lived there daily lives, could they go shopping on a Sunday, how did Great Grand Mother buy her weekly joint and where from, when you start to answer some of these, and many more questions, you will start to understand just how your ancestors really lived, and build up a real picture of the life that your ancestor's] had.

For many the information is not difficult to find, here in the city we have excellent resources, a visit to Local Studies or Coventry Archives, can uncover so much about the city that I could be writing for the next 100 years [and put you to sleep !]

I have put together information from some records, which prior to my research, were not indexed by surname or were in a format which would not allow easy checking for a surname.

Double click a selection [1834] in the column on the left , then you can view the list of the names within that database. [Many family names appear in more than one database].

The full listings of names from my first five books, and other information can be found by using the following link [view books]. If you require the information from within any of these books, without purchasing the book[s], a small donation [£2 per surname], would be welcomed to help maintain the web site and cover costs of obtaining this and more information.

{Note professional researchers charge from £15 to £20 per hour}.

With the kind assistance of Ms S Worrall, Coventry City Archivist, I have indexed some of the many 1,000's of names which appear in the records held at the Archives. This is an ongoing project, which will take time, please read the notes on the opening page of the link below, before sending for copies of the documents mentioned.
