Induction to the Canadian Curling Association Curling Hall of Fame is the highest honour bestowed by the Association.

1. Classification of Members

There shall be four (4) categories of membership and enrollment in the Curling Hall of Fame, namely:
  • Executive Honour Roll
  • Curler
  • Curler/Builder
  • Builder
Past Presidents of the Canadian Curling Association shall automatically be inducted to the Hall of Fame as Executive Honour Roll. They shall receive the personal memento, certificate and the pin. Their induction will occur at the AGM immediately following their term as President unless they continue to serve as a CCA Board member. In this case, they will be automatically inducted at the AGM immediately following their term with the CCA.

Curler is defined as a competitor or participant, including teams, recognized by the Canadian Curling Association.

Builder is defined as any individual who has made a major contribution toward the promotion, development and advancement of curling in Canada, and, without restricting the generality of the foregoing, may include officials, managers, trainers, CCA certified coaches, administrators and executives of clubs, groups or associations, media personnel and sponsors.

Curler/Builder is defined as any individual who has combined competition and participation in amateur curling with continued interest and contribution toward the promotion, development and advancement of curling in Canada.

2. Eligibility

(1) The following criteria will be taken into consideration when determining eligibility for induction to the Curling Hall of Fame:
  a) Curlers and/or teams attaining the following criteria shall be considered for induction:
  • winner of three (3) Briers or Tournament of Hearts (the team would be inducted as long as it is the same four players each time. If not, the individuals will be inducted).
  • winner of four (4) Canadian Championships as long as the four titles includes at least one men's or women's title. The exception would be anyone collecting four senior championships.
  • winner of three (3) World Curling Championships (must include at least two (2) men's or women's world titles). The exception would be anyone collecting three (3) sanctioned world senior championships.
  • winner of two (2) World Curling Championships and one (1) Olympic games. (These criteria must include one (1) men's or women's world title.)
  • Curler candidates shall be chosen on the basis of their playing ability, sportsmanship and character. Candidates will have achieved extraordinary distinction and a high level of excellence in amateur curling in Canada or internationally, having performed in such a way as to bring honour to the sport of curling in Canada.
  b) Builder candidates shall be chosen on the basis of having made a major contribution to the development and advancement of curling at the National level. This may include persons who have served as officers of national or provincial/territorial organizations and, in their capacities, have rendered exceptional service to the sport of curling. It also includes those apart from these capacities (including CCA certified coaches) that, by their assistance, sponsorship or other valuable contribution have furthered the development of the sport of curling.
  c) Curler/builder candidates shall be chosen on the basis of achievement as a participant in amateur curling and contribution to the development and advancement of curling at the national level. This combination is recognized as worthy for election to the Curling Hall of Fame.
  d) A person, resident outside of Canada, who has given outstanding service to the sport of curling may be chosen, provided such service, international in nature, has a special application to the effect of the sport in Canada.
(2) Nominations in any one of subsections 2. (1), (a) to (e) inclusive of this Section may include the names of persons living or deceased, and who are or have been residents of Canada, and whose qualifications can comply with the eligibility rules herein provided.
(3) Curler/Builder candidates may be either active or inactive in curling at the time of nomination.
(4) Members of the Board of Directors, Officers, Staff and/or Selection Committee of the Hall of Fame shall not be eligible for election to the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame while serving in office.
(5) Candidates (with the exception of CCA Past Presidents) will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at age 45. To be considered, they must be 45 years of age or older as of January 1st preceding the annual Hall of Fame announcement.

3. Elections Posthumous

(1) Any person who shall die between the date of his election to the Curling Hall of Fame and the date of induction shall be duly enrolled posthumously.
(2) A deceased person may be a candidate for election to the Curling Hall of Fame and, if so elected, shall be enrolled posthumously.

4. Hall of Fame Selection Committee

(1) Selection Committee shall be appointed by the CCA President and shall consist of three (3) CCA Board members who are knowledgeable in the history, traditions, accomplishments, abilities, skill, achievements and contributions of "Curlers" and "Builders", and whose judgment and integrity are most likely to ensure the fair and impartial assessment of the qualities of the candidates submitted for their consideration.
(2) To ensure the maintenance of a very high standard of excellence in the selections, the chairman of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee reserves the right to name additional non-voting members to the committee who are knowledgeable in the history of the sport of curling.
(3) Each member of the Selection Committee shall be appointed for a term of three (3) years, on a rotating basis.
(4) The Selection Committee shall determine its own rules of procedure, provided, however, wherever possible, Robert's Rules of Order are followed.
(5) In the event of the death or resignation of a member of the Selection Committee, the Board of Directors shall forthwith fill the vacancy and the individual so appointed shall complete the term of his or her predecessor.
(6) All reasonable expenses of the Selection Committee as authorized by the Board of Directors shall be paid by the CCA

5. Duties and Deliberations of the Selection Committee

(1) The Selection Committee shall be responsible for all matters relating to the selection of candidates for the Curling Hall of Fame.
(2) The Selection Committee is authorized and empowered to pass rules and regulations and to establish procedures for the general administration and selection of candidates to the Curling Hall of Fame and recipients of the Ray Kingsmith Award and the CCA Achievement Awards.
(3) The Chairman shall preside at all meetings of the Selection Committee, but in the absence of the Chairman, the Selection Committee shall elect a Chairman for the purpose of that meeting.
(4) The quorum for any meeting of the Selection Committee shall be three (3).
(5) The Selection Committee shall ensure that records of curlers/teams are maintained and updated annually.

6. Nominations

(1) The Selection Committee shall receive nominations from curling clubs that are members of the CCA, the Provincial/Territorial Associations, the Board of Directors of the CCA, and the Association of Canadian Curling Reporters.
(2) All nominations shall be made in writing to the Selection Committee Chairman, at the CCA office, and shall contain the fullest possible information, including a picture, the dates and records of the merits of each candidate. The deadline for nominations is December 31st in any given year
(3) The Selection Committee shall prescribe the form of the nomination, and all nominations submitted shall be in accordance with the required form.
(4) All nominations shall be in the hands of the Chairman of the Selection Committee by December 1st of each year.
(5) If a member of the Selection Committee is not satisfied with the information contained in the nomination form nor with the supporting material, the Chairman shall request the nominator to supply such additional information and data as is deemed necessary.

7. Election

(1) The power of election of all candidates to the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame is vested in the Selection Committee and such election shall take place on or before the last day of January in each and every year.
(2) The Selection Committee may conduct its deliberations and make its decisions either at meetings called by the Chairman, by conference call, by correspondence, or as otherwise prescribed by the Selection Committee.
(3) The decision of the Selection Committee in the election of the members shall be final and irrevocable.
(4) A secret ballot may be used and each member shall be entitled to vote for the number of candidates established by the regulations.
(5) Any candidate receiving unanimous approval of all present and voting shall be declared elected.
(6) A candidate must receive a minimum of three of the four votes to be declared elected.
(7) The Chairman shall then make a declaration of the ballot results and the election of candidates to the Curling Hall of Fame.
(8) A candidate nomination will be valid and considered by the Selection Committee for three (3) consecutive years after which, if not elected, it will be returned to the nominator. The nominations may be resubmitted after one year.

8. Publication of Election

(1) The Chair of the Selection Committee shall notify the President of the CCA of the results of the election.
(2) The Chair of the Selection Committee shall prepare, with the CCA staff, a media release for general publication.
(3) Prior to the media release, the President of the CCA shall notify the persons elected of their selection.
(4) At the same time, the nominators of the successful candidates and their Provincial/Territorial Associations shall be notified, by telephone or facsimile, of the election.

9. Procedure of Induction

(1) Each newly elected member (or proxy, if said member is unable to attend) shall be formally inducted into membership in the Curling Hall of Fame.
(2) The time and place of induction shall be as agreed upon between the nominator, the Board of Directors of the CCA, the Selection Committee and the nominator.
(3) At the time of induction, the new member shall receive appropriate insignia of membership: a certificate, a pin, and/or other forms of recognition as the Selection Committee, in consultation with the Board of Directors, deems appropriate.

10. Confidentiality

(1) No member of the Selection Committee shall, at any time, divulge or disclose the results or other particulars of the balloting (otherwise than hereinbefore expressly provided), nor shall he/she disclose the vote of any member at any time.

Past Presidents of the Canadian Curling Association shall automatically be inducted to the Hall of Fame as Executive Honour Roll. They shall receive the personal memento, certificate and the pin. Their induction will occur at the AGM immediately following their term as President unless they continue to serve as a CCA Board member. In this case, they will be automatically inducted at the AGM immediately following their term with the CCA.

Curler is defined as a competitor or participant, including teams, recognized by the Canadian Curling Association.

Builder is defined as any individual who has made a major contribution toward the promotion, development and advancement of curling in Canada, and, without restricting the generality of the foregoing, may include officials, managers, trainers, CCA certified coaches, administrators and executives of clubs, groups or associations, media personnel and sponsors.

Curler/Builder is defined as any individual who has combined competition and participation in amateur curling with continued interest and contribution toward the promotion, development and advancement of curling in Canada.

2. Eligibility

(1) The following criteria will be taken into consideration when determining eligibility for induction to the Curling Hall of Fame:
  a) Curlers and/or teams attaining the following criteria shall be considered for induction:
  • winner of three (3) Briers or Tournament of Hearts (the team would be inducted as long as it is the same four players each time. If not, the individuals will be inducted).
  • winner of four (4) Canadian Championships as long as the four titles includes at least one men's or women's title. The exception would be anyone collecting four senior championships.
  • winner of three (3) World Curling Championships (must include at least two (2) men's or women's world titles). The exception would be anyone collecting three (3) sanctioned world senior championships.
  • winner of two (2) World Curling Championships and one (1) Olympic games. (These criteria must include one (1) men's or women's world title.)
  • Curler candidates shall be chosen on the basis of their playing ability, sportsmanship and character. Candidates will have achieved extraordinary distinction and a high level of excellence in amateur curling in Canada or internationally, having performed in such a way as to bring honour to the sport of curling in Canada.
  b) Builder candidates shall be chosen on the basis of having made a major contribution to the development and advancement of curling at the National level. This may include persons who have served as officers of national or provincial/territorial organizations and, in their capacities, have rendered exceptional service to the sport of curling. It also includes those apart from these capacities (including CCA certified coaches) that, by their assistance, sponsorship or other valuable contribution have furthered the development of the sport of curling.
  c) Curler/builder candidates shall be chosen on the basis of achievement as a participant in amateur curling and contribution to the development and advancement of curling at the national level. This combination is recognized as worthy for election to the Curling Hall of Fame.
  d) A person, resident outside of Canada, who has given outstanding service to the sport of curling may be chosen, provided such service, international in nature, has a special application to the effect of the sport in Canada.
(2) Nominations in any one of subsections 2. (1), (a) to (e) inclusive of this Section may include the names of persons living or deceased, and who are or have been residents of Canada, and whose qualifications can comply with the eligibility rules herein provided.
(3) Curler/Builder candidates may be either active or inactive in curling at the time of nomination.
(4) Members of the Board of Directors, Officers, Staff and/or Selection Committee of the Hall of Fame shall not be eligible for election to the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame while serving in office.
(5) Candidates (with the exception of CCA Past Presidents) will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at age 45. To be considered, they must be 45 years of age or older as of January 1st preceding the annual Hall of Fame announcement.

3. Elections Posthumous

(1) Any person who shall die between the date of his election to the Curling Hall of Fame and the date of induction shall be duly enrolled posthumously.
(2) A deceased person may be a candidate for election to the Curling Hall of Fame and, if so elected, shall be enrolled posthumously.

4. Hall of Fame Selection Committee

(1) Selection Committee shall be appointed by the CCA President and shall consist of three (3) CCA Board members who are knowledgeable in the history, traditions, accomplishments, abilities, skill, achievements and contributions of "Curlers" and "Builders", and whose judgment and integrity are most likely to ensure the fair and impartial assessment of the qualities of the candidates submitted for their consideration.
(2) To ensure the maintenance of a very high standard of excellence in the selections, the chairman of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee reserves the right to name additional non-voting members to the committee who are knowledgeable in the history of the sport of curling.
(3) Each member of the Selection Committee shall be appointed for a term of three (3) years, on a rotating basis.
(4) The Selection Committee shall determine its own rules of procedure, provided, however, wherever possible, Robert's Rules of Order are followed.
(5) In the event of the death or resignation of a member of the Selection Committee, the Board of Directors shall forthwith fill the vacancy and the individual so appointed shall complete the term of his or her predecessor.
(6) All reasonable expenses of the Selection Committee as authorized by the Board of Directors shall be paid by the CCA

5. Duties and Deliberations of the Selection Committee

(1) The Selection Committee shall be responsible for all matters relating to the selection of candidates for the Curling Hall of Fame.
(2) The Selection Committee is authorized and empowered to pass rules and regulations and to establish procedures for the general administration and selection of candidates to the Curling Hall of Fame and recipients of the Ray Kingsmith Award and the CCA Achievement Awards.
(3) The Chairman shall preside at all meetings of the Selection Committee, but in the absence of the Chairman, the Selection Committee shall elect a Chairman for the purpose of that meeting.
(4) The quorum for any meeting of the Selection Committee shall be three (3).
(5) The Selection Committee shall ensure that records of curlers/teams are maintained and updated annually.

6. Nominations

(1) The Selection Committee shall receive nominations from curling clubs that are members of the CCA, the Provincial/Territorial Associations, the Board of Directors of the CCA, and the Association of Canadian Curling Reporters.
(2) All nominations shall be made in writing to the Selection Committee Chairman, at the CCA office, and shall contain the fullest possible information, including a picture, the dates and records of the merits of each candidate. The deadline for nominations is December 31st in any given year
(3) The Selection Committee shall prescribe the form of the nomination, and all nominations submitted shall be in accordance with the required form.
(4) All nominations shall be in the hands of the Chairman of the Selection Committee by December 1st of each year.
(5) If a member of the Selection Committee is not satisfied with the information contained in the nomination form nor with the supporting material, the Chairman shall request the nominator to supply such additional information and data as is deemed necessary.

7. Election

(1) The power of election of all candidates to the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame is vested in the Selection Committee and such election shall take place on or before the last day of January in each and every year.
(2) The Selection Committee may conduct its deliberations and make its decisions either at meetings called by the Chairman, by conference call, by correspondence, or as otherwise prescribed by the Selection Committee.
(3) The decision of the Selection Committee in the election of the members shall be final and irrevocable.
(4) A secret ballot may be used and each member shall be entitled to vote for the number of candidates established by the regulations.
(5) Any candidate receiving unanimous approval of all present and voting shall be declared elected.
(6) A candidate must receive a minimum of three of the four votes to be declared elected.
(7) The Chairman shall then make a declaration of the ballot results and the election of candidates to the Curling Hall of Fame.
(8) A candidate nomination will be valid and considered by the Selection Committee for three (3) consecutive years after which, if not elected, it will be returned to the nominator. The nominations may be resubmitted after one year.

8. Publication of Election

(1) The Chair of the Selection Committee shall notify the President of the CCA of the results of the election.
(2) The Chair of the Selection Committee shall prepare, with the CCA staff, a media release for general publication.
(3) Prior to the media release, the President of the CCA shall notify the persons elected of their selection.
(4) At the same time, the nominators of the successful candidates and their Provincial/Territorial Associations shall be notified, by telephone or facsimile, of the election.

9. Procedure of Induction

(1) Each newly elected member (or proxy, if said member is unable to attend) shall be formally inducted into membership in the Curling Hall of Fame.
(2) The time and place of induction shall be as agreed upon between the nominator, the Board of Directors of the CCA, the Selection Committee and the nominator.
(3) At the time of induction, the new member shall receive appropriate insignia of membership: a certificate, a pin, and/or other forms of recognition as the Selection Committee, in consultation with the Board of Directors, deems appropriate.

10. Confidentiality

(1) No member of the Selection Committee shall, at any time, divulge or disclose the results or other particulars of the balloting (otherwise than hereinbefore expressly provided), nor shall he/she disclose the vote of any member at any time.
