O2 Arsenal.com Player of the Month - Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas won the O2 Arsenal.com Player of the Month award for April by a landslide.

The 19-year-old received over two thirds of the votes cast in our official poll - a mammoth 67.45 per cent. And it's no great surprise after a month which saw Fabregas supplement his influential midfield performances with a couple of cracking goals.

April started in frustrating fashion for Fabregas as Arsenal drew a blank against West Ham and Newcastle. But that all changed against Bolton as Fabregas - after so many near-misses - scored his first Premiership goal in a little under a year. The teenager followed that three days later with a spectacular strike in a 3-1 win against Manchester City which all but secured a Champions League place.

Fabregas was laid low by a virus ahead of the North London derby and only just made the bench at White Hart Lane. He was called into action earlier than expected when Freddie Ljungberg limped off in the first half but responded with a commanding performance as Arsenal dominated the rest of a pulsating 2-2 draw. Fabregas claimed the assist for both of the visitors' goals.

He started Arsenal's final game of the month - against Fulham - and once again ran the show from his central role. The fans were certainly impressed, handing Fabregas one of the largest shares of the vote since the O2 Arsenal.com Player of the Month award began.

Gael Clichy claimed second place, a reward for his consistency at left back and a man-of-the-match display against Fulham. Emmanuel Adebayor, carrying the attacking burden in the absence of Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie, finished third after scoring two goals and working tirelessly throughout April.

John Thater and his daughter Rosie from Thames Ditton, Surrey, will be at Emirates Stadium to present Cesc with his award on Sunday after winning our competition.

"Cesc is not only the controlling heartbeat of the team but he finally came good as a goalscorer too," said John. "He is not just player of the month but a surefire contender for player of the season."
