The meat of it
by Margaux Salcedo

MANILA, Philippines - If 2006 was all about foie gras, 2007 is all about Wagyu. Of late it’s been Wagyu here, Wagyu there, with many a restaurant bragging about their Wagyu steaks or Wagyu burgers and convincing many consumers to purchase burgers for over P200.

To Miss Universe —and beyond!
by Anna Theresa Licaros

MANILA, Philippines – My most distinct memory from the Miss Universe pageant this year was that of Miss France holding a cheeseburger served us at Hard Rock Café Mexico.

MANILA, Philippines - In Spain, people are snacking on Filipinos. Not exactly a cannibalistic practice, when the Filipinos I refer to are foil-wrapped wafers. I’ve tried them. Yummy!

Vinyl Divine

MANILA, Philippines - Is the CD obsolete? With digital music downloads—both legal and otherwise—fast becoming the preferred medium for obtaining music, it’s beginning to look like the days of the CD are numbered.

Local TV’s most hated?

MANILA, Philippines – Mention the word “abrasive” and former housemate Wendy Valdez of “Pinoy Big Brother” (PBB) immediately bristles: “I know what abrasive means, and I am partly that.

A mix of French sophistication and Pinoy affection

MANILA, Philippines - It is inevitable to feel homesick to some degree when traveling to unfamiliar places abroad. Fortunately for Filipinos in Paris, there’s a place that offers a touch of home, thanks to a young Filipina who has settled in this City of Lights.

 Poetry
Kundi Yaong Naglalaho by Mikael de Lara Co
Ngunit walang nasalang ang kanyang mga daliring
pilit lumalamukot sa dilim. Muli,

magsisimula siya sa dulo, magmumuni
kung paanong ang lahat ng awit ay umuusbong

mula sa pangangatal ng katahimikan.
Paanong tatanganan ang haraya?

Paanong pawawalan? At paanong titipuning muli,
matapos ang dagliang pagsasatubig? Titindig siya,

lalapit sa bintana. Sa labas, umuuwi
sa lupang tayantang ang marurupok na dahon.

At ang lupa, saan naman mananahan?
Isasara niya ang bintana. Ititikom

ang mga labi, pipikit. Ano nga ba ang talukap
kundi yaong naglalaho sa iglap ng pagdilat?

Tatangkain niyang tuklapin ang mga langib
mula sa sugatan niyang pananalig.

May nagkukubling liwanag. May kumakawalang tinig.
May iba pa bang anyo ang pananalangin? Ngunit

walang nasalang ang kanyang mga daliri. Tahimik
na nagpipinid ng malasakit ang bintana: sa labas,

hinahalukipkip ng hangin ang nahubdang mga sanga,
hinihilom ang mga puwang sa alangaang,

payapang pinupunan ang bawat paglalaho.
