Kurau: Phantom Memory DVD 3 The story may have progressed, but what makes this series great hasn't changed: it's still one of the most convincingly heartfelt and emotional of all anime action series. 2007-08-26
The Click - August 25 - 31 Brian returns once again to level-headedly pluck forth the cream of the crop. And we're talking about anime shows on TV here, people. Just so you don't get any weird ideas. 2007-08-25
Innocent Venus DVD 1 There's plenty here that will be familiar to anyone with a few anime shows under their belt, but it moves a clip that makes the more derivative features of the show easy to ignore. Just sit back and enjoy a little of the ol' ultraviolence. 2007-08-25

Kurau: Phantom Memory DVD 3 The story may have progressed, but what makes this series great hasn't changed: it's still one of the most convincingly heartfelt and emotional of all anime action series.
Innocent Venus DVD 1 There's plenty here that will be familiar to anyone with a few anime shows under their belt, but it moves a clip that makes the more derivative features of the show easy to ignore. Just sit back and enjoy a little of the ol' ultraviolence.
Wings of Rean Sub.DVD 3 Feels less like it's self-destructing into a confusing mess of plot points thanks in large part to the fact that so much crap is blowing up that there's no time to notice the frantic plotting or laughably truncated personal drama.
Wings of Rean Sub.DVD 2 Might have promise were it allowed to stretch itself out over a few more episodes. A dash of romance with the promise of spectacular destruction to come makes the prospect of the next two episodes of over-plotted confusion much more palatable.
Air DVD 1 An itinerant puppeteer settles in a town populated by quirky moe girls while searching for a girl with wings in this anime adaptation of a popular dating sim. Although it looks great, so far it lacks an involving story.
Girls High Sub.DVD 2 There're plenty of laughs to be had, and the portrayal of teen life continues to be more honest than is the norm. If only they'd lose the ambitions of dramatic gravitas, and maybe drown the PE teacher while they're at it.
When They Cry DVD 2 Murderous moe girls rampage as the cyclical storytelling continues to reveal new truths and horrors about Hinamizawa. If the first volume got you interested, the second volume will hook you.
Black Cat DVD 5 The series still has Eve and some oddball humor, but this climax-before-the-climax is a sloppy mess of worn, half-hearted clichés and unexciting fights hamstrung by needless and confusing stylistic flourishes.
Resident Evil 4 Regardless of age, Resident Evil 4 remains one of the finest action games ever created, and this latest port reminds us that this game is a modern classic.
Kashimashi GN 3 Just when the story looks like it will progress down a well-traveled path, it takes a couple of unexpected turns. More a pure romance with comedy thrown in than a true romantic comedy.
Fushigi Yuugi DVD 2 ... a surefire shoujo formula ... if you ever get sucked into a fantasy world, just collect enough bishounen into your man-pile and you, too, can have super magical powers!
