The search is currently underway to find New South Wales’ best fruit and vegetable shop through a “mystery shopper program” being run by Sydney Markets Limited and the NSW Chamber of Fruit and Vegetable Industries.

Interest from fruit and vegetable retailers in both Sydney and regional areas has been high, with 140 stores already registered. There is however still time for other businesses to join the program.

The program involves professional mystery shoppers visiting fruit and vegetable retailers across the state and assessing them on a variety of factors including product quality, customer service, merchandising and store presentation.

“Sydney Markets are implementing this program to give recognition to fruit and vegetable retailers who do a fantastic job in supplying top quality fresh produce to customers on a daily basis,” Sydney Markets, Retail Support Program Manager Sue Dodd said.

“Retailers will be eligible or awards such as ‘Retailer of the Month’ and ‘Certificates of Excellence’, culminating in the prestigious ‘Retailer of the Year Award’, announced later in the year.”

The awards, which have been organised for the past two years by the NSW Chamber of Fruit and Vegetable Industries’ Market Industries Committee, are being enhanced by Sydney Markets Limited’s involvement. They are now open to independent fruit and vegetable retailers across New South Wales & ACT who buy produce at Sydney Markets, Flemington.
