URGING THE NATIONAL GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT AND PROMOTE THE TEACHING OF THE SPANISH LANGUAGE IN ALL PUBLIC AND PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES IN THE PHILIPPINES
WHEREAS, the Philippine has a long and deep historical and cultural ties with Spain;
WHEREAS, many of our historical past and documents are written in the Spanish language;
WHEREAS, the Spanish language can be a major vehicle for international communication for trade, understanding and tourism;
Whereas, the Spanish language is spoken by more that 400 Million people worldwide, and it is in growing demand in Europe and North America, where it is now the second most widely spoken language;
Whereas, our history and culture can be best understood if our people know and speak the language;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, as is it hereby resolved, that the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) urges national government to support and promote the teaching of the Spanish language in all public and private Universities and colleges in the Philippines;
RESOLVED FURTHER, that the ULAP urges the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to study the implementation of the program to provide our youth a better tool for international communication.
RESOLVED FINALLY, that the ULAP presents copies of this Resolutions to Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the CHEd for their consideration and appropriate action.
