RULES OF NOMINATIONS AND AWARDS

THE AWARDS

1. 12 Awards are conferred

Eight based on APRA's statistical analysis:

  • Most Performed Australian Work
  • Most Performed Foreign Work
  • Most Performed Australian Work Overseas
  • Most Performed Jazz Work
  • Most Performed Country Work
  • Most Performed Dance Work
  • Most Performed Urban Work
  • Most Performed Blues and Roots Work

One based on voting by APRA members:

  • Song of the Year

Three given at the discretion of the Board of Directors of APRA;

  • Breakthrough Songwriter Award
  • Songwriter of the Year
  • Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Service
    to Australian Music

2. The Award is in the form of a certificate suitably inscribed.


B. ELIGIBILITY

1. For Most Performed nominations
(excluding Most Performed Foreign Work and Most Performed Australian Work Overseas)

[a] The work must have been written principally (ie. minimum 50% share) by an APRA writer member principally domiciled in Australia.

[b] The work must have been released in an 18 month period. For the Awards held in 2006, the eligible release date period will be 1st July 2004 to 31st December 2005.

2. For Most Performed Foreign Work nominations

[a] The work must have been written principally by a member of a collecting society affiliated with APRA.

[b] The work must have been released in an 18 month period. For the Awards held in 2006, the eligible release date period will be 1st July 2004 to 31st December 2005.

3. Most Performed Australian Work Overseas

[a] The work must have been written principally (ie. minimum 50% share) by an APRA writer member principally domiciled in Australia.

4. The Award for Breakthrough Songwriter

is made to a writer or group of writers whose potential is recognised and acknowledged as an emerging talent.

5. The Award for Songwriter of the Year

is made to the writer who has produced an outstanding body of work during the 12 month period for which the award is made.

6. The Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Service to Australian Music

is made to an individual or group considered to have made an outstanding contribution to Australian Music over a number of years.

7. For Song of the Year nominations

A) The work must have been written principally (ie. minimum 50% share) by an APRA writer member principally domiciled in Australia.

B) The work must have been released in the relevant 12 month calendar period.

C. NOMINATIONS/ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

1. For Most Performed Awards

Nominees and subsequent winners are determined by performance activity, as reflected by earnings, according to APRA's statistical analysis for the relevant 12 month calendar period.

2. Breakthrough Songwriter Award

New songwriters are judged on the quality of their work and the level of new performance activity they have achieved in the year under review. The APRA board selects the recipient.

3. Songwriter of the Year

Songwriters are judged on the quality of their body of work, and acclaim, during the year under review The APRA board selects the recipient.

4. Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Service to Australian Music

Individuals or organisations are assessed on their influence on, and contribution to The Australian Music Industry. The APRA Board selects the recipient.

5. Song of the Year

Nominations and the subsequent winner are determined by APRA members. Votes are received electronically, via fax or via post and tallied by APRA.
