Chinese Orchestra


Established in 1973 and comprising 200 members and 100 alumni members, The Dunman High School Chinese Orchestra (DHSCO) is one of the most renowned Chinese Orchestras in Singapore.

The orchestra's director and conductor, Mr Tay Teow Kiat, also the Music Director of East Zone Schools ’ Chinese Orchestra Development Centre, has led DHSCO to many accomplishments, including the inaugural Gold With Honours Award at the recent SYF Central Judging.

DHSCO has often been invited to stage performances at important events and celebrations as well as to stage concerts in other countries, like Malaysia and China .

DHSCO is highly regarded in the Singapore music scene. It has received accolades from both the professional Chinese music circle and the community at large.

String Ensemble


The Dunman High School String Ensemble was formed in 1994 and has grown to the present strength of over 40 members. Under the guidance of its conductor, Ms Marietta Ku, the String Ensemble has participated in the biennial Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging since 1995, clinching Gold and Silver awards. It achieved the higher distinction of Gold with Honours in both 2005 and 2007.

The String Ensemble aims to enrich and enhance the musical life of its members, as well as build their character, team spirit and leadership qualities. The ensemble activities include the annual public concert “Spirit of Strings”, holidays training camps, Combined School Strings Camp, concert tours, school events, masterclasses, performance workshops and community service.

This year, the String Ensemble has officially opened to include a Senior High cohort, in a bid to continue the fine tradition of DHSSE as Dunman High’s Integrated Programme becomes fully implemented. Driven by a shared fervour for music, the Senior High Chamber Ensemble strives to take music making to a higher level and simultaneously, reach out to a more mature audience.

Symphonic Band

The Dunman High School Symphonic Band focuses on achieving the objectives of enriching the members musically and instilling discipline, civic-mindedness and team-spirit. Band activities include concerts, music camps, music exchanges, community service, performance tours and competitions both locally and abroad. On top of an illustrious list of achievements, including consecutive Gold awards in the SYF Central Judging for Concert Bands ( Gold with Honours in 2005 ) , the band prides itself on its mission to promote among its members, a lifelong passion for music and music-making.



Dunman High School Senior High Guitar Club was officially formed in January 2007, initiated by a group of Year 5 students who show enthusiasm and passion for Guitar. The club mainly focused on pop guitar and aims to to expose students to different genres of pop music. Students also learn classical playing techniques which help enhance their musical knowledge. Teamwork also plays a crucial part in their activities and practice. Students are also given opportunities to perform and participate in workshops that help to enhance their musical skills and knowledge.
