Democrats on Taxes - They want change - yours.

When I listened to the Democrats attacking businesses for not paying taxes, I knew they were stupid or lying about it.  My corporate clients don't pay taxes because almost all are Subchapter-S corporations, which means that the corporate income flows to their personal returns and is taxed there.  No taxes are avoided.  They are simply taxed on another form.

But, the Democrats would have you believe that the taxpayers are lying on their taxes.  If anyone is lying, it's Nancy Pelosi and her crowd, unchallenged by their adoring media.

Democrats Offer Lesson in Misleading on Taxes

Last week, the Government Accountability Office released a report that revealed why Washington is so broken: Democratic politicians too often act like U.S. businesses are the enemy.

...``When two-thirds of corporations pay no taxes,'' Pelosi said, ``American workers are forced to pay too much in taxes even as they cope with rising prices and falling wages.''

The study seemed to play right into the Democratic us- against-them playbook. Evil corporations rake in the cash and then play dirty tricks to avoid taxes. That leaves the little guy with the bill for our government.

The problem is, the study showed no such thing.  ....

To the Democrats, no one (well, at least "the rich"--which means you and me) pays enough in taxes.  Just put the Democrats in total control and that will be changed, and that's one type of change that our economy and families can't take.

More Photobloging From Bermuda

Water's so calm, even the dogs enjoy the warm, relaxation of a float in the bay!

Friends and family in the bright Bermuda sun!

The architecture can be stunning in both its color and its simplicity!

Natal Plum Bush in full bloom.  These fruits are tasty and plentiful all over the island.

The island not only has vibrant and exciting colors, but also subtle color changes, but none-the-less exciting for that.

Early Shots From Bermuda

Who be these strange folk visitin' my island?

Up and down several hills, around a couple of hairpin curves and watching for traffic that seems determined to drive on the wrong side of the road and we get to this charming little bay:

Colors run riot in Bermuda!

Even the houses are colorful.  Notice too the channels on the roof.  Bermuda has no fresh water, everyone collects rain from the roof for giant cisterns.  And of course desalinization.

More later!

YeeeeHaaaa!!!  Instalanche!  Thanks Glenn!

Lockerbie, Flight 103 and Sarah!

One of my good friends Yaacov bin Moshe blogs at Breath of the Beast.  The beast being anti-semitism and terrorism in all its deadly forms.  In an entry today, Yaacov pays tribute to one of the victims in the bombing of Flight 103 near Lockerbie, Scotland, a Sarah Philipps:  Birthday Gift For A Dead Girl.  This is a moving post folks so I urge you to read it all.  Here is an exerpt:

I live next to a lovely suburban park in Newton, Massachusetts. It might be the last place where you would expect to find it but, if you pay attention, you will feel the breath of the beast here too.

Between my dogs and my kids, I manage to find quite a few excuses to spend time on the benches in the park. There is one bench in particular- in a very nice corner of the park where two streams converge. This bench is very near to a playground so that the sound of playing children is often in the background; but it faces away from the play area- as if to look away and brood.  It is a cool spot, under the shelter of several big, old trees so there is shade from the summer sun and the cruel winter winds are muffled.

I often sit on that bench, starting out there in solitude, only to find myself in the company of a young woman whom I will never meet. There is a little bronze plaque affixed to a rock here and it conjures her presence. Sometimes, I remember to contemplate her fate.

Go read it all and sign the petition while you are at it.  We can't bring Sarah back, but maybe if we have the courage and fortitude, we can prevent more Sarahs in the future.

New Olympic Move - The Obama Flop

Barack Obama (Dem-241 Days in the Senate) believes this, and that, and the other, and sometimes something else.  Which way is the wind blowing today?

The original Obama on Russia invading Georgia:

"I strongly condemn the outbreak of violence in Georgia, and urge an immediate end to armed conflict. Now is the time for Georgia and Russia to show restraint, and to avoid an escalation to full scale war. Georgia's territorial integrity must be respected. All sides should enter into direct talks on behalf of stability in Georgia, and the United States, the United Nations Security Council, and the international community should fully support a peaceful resolution to this crisis."

The flipped Obama after testing the direction of the wind and copying off of McCain's paper:

"I condemn Russia's aggressive actions and reiterate my call for an immediate ceasefire... Russia must stop its bombing campaign, cease flights of Russian aircraft in Georgian airspace, and withdraw its ground forces from Georgia."

A President can't look on someone else's paper to make urgent decisions.  He has to make the right one the first time.  If elected, Obama should make McCain his National Security Advisor.  Let's hope the former doesn't happen to nessitate that.

John Edwards Loses Promotion Contract

Breaking News:  Breck Shampoo has announced that it has terminated its association with John Edwards and that he will not appear in future advertising for them.  John Edwards had no comment except to say that he would miss the other models.

"O" Is Not What It Used To Be

What is with this guy?  Adoration isn't enough, Presidential seals aren't enough, he now has to have his own SIGN?  Oh please!  This alone is reason enough to vote for anyone but Obama.

With A Tip O' The GM Derby to Doug Ross, Gerard Vanderleun and Dan Reihl and of course to the irrepressible Larwyn.

Does Character Matter? You bet!

Democrats are in a tizzy over John Edwards' affair, even more than Republicans, because John Edwards almost hurt their party and their causes--not the country.  Character was an issue when Bill Clinton was running and serving in office--but, not to liberals.  They long for a return to the Clinton years.  But, what did that get us and why should we want to return to that?  Did they not learn anything?

In response to a liberal, one of the few rational ones that I know, this is how I answered his pining for the Clinton years in light of the Edwards scandal.

When Clinton left office, the dotcom bubble had burst, the country was in a real rather than a pretend media recession, China had purchased our missile guidance secrets with donations to Clinton, FBI files were used to destroy his detractors, terrible felons were pardoned at the last minute for money and favors, and the stage for 9-11 was set by his policy of "can I wait another day without dealing with a crucial issue."

As part of those issues and a problem that became his legacy, Bill Clinton was a liar with low character.  He hurt more than Democrats.  He hurt our entire nation with his misconduct and lies.

When Clinton was running for office and was in office, it was often repeated by him, the Democrats, and the press that "character didn't matter."  The American public was misled.  Character does matter, and to say otherwise is a horrible lesson for our children.

Clinton corrupts our national culture

Eleven-year-old Keith Lynch of the Bronx said, "He's lying to people who love him and trust him. That's no President to me. He should be ashamed of himself for teaching kids bad things." Tyrone Strother, 15, also of the Bronx, said, "He went to lie school, not law school."  Cory Hinojosa, a Houston seven-year-- old, knows that lying is wrong. When he lies, he says, he gets a "time-out." Says Cory, "They should give a punishment like not to be President the rest of the year."

The point here is that children inhabit a moral universe. There is a law, St. Paul says,
