Welcome to 2005 at Modern Music Studios
Modern Music has been busy over the festive season with Sydney band ECM making the trip up to record their debut EP with Stuart Niven. ECM are a blend of heavy grooves and electronic swirls with a powerful female vocal to match. Brisbane Jim Beam battle of the bands comp winners Repeat Offender also came in to record their hard melodic rock debut EP with Stu. Currently in the studio is Brisbane acoustic duo The Mosaics and coming up is Tassie band Lakoda, TheButterfly Effect, Japunga and This Collission.
Recently In The Studio
Former members of Brisbane hard rock band Ochre have formed a new band called Dead Letter Circus . They have just completed tracking their debut EP. Sunshine Coast metal band Subversion also just completed recording their debut EP. Winners of the Jim Beam band contest Repeat Offender recently demoed songs for their forthcoming EP. Gold Coast electro metal band Tripitaka have completed their debut EP. Elephant Mojo recently released their new single. Mopery recorded their debut EP. Douglas Fir have tracked their new EP for mixing with Andrew Scheps in LA.
Douglas Fir Being Mixed By Andrew Scheps
Douglas Fir, who recently recorded their new EP with Stuart Niven at Modern Music have hooked up with legendary engineer / mixer Andrew Scheps. Andrew has worked with Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Limp Bizkit, Audioslave, No Doubt and most of Rick Rubins artists for the past ten years in the US. Douglas Fir sent him some tracks and he loved them so much he decided to mix the project. The band and Stuart Niven fly to LA next week to mix the tracks.
Small Mercies Breaks At Radio
Brisbane band Small Mercies who recorded their debut EP at Modern Music have broken commercial radio with their track "Pellet Gun". It was added to Triple J on spot rotation in September and has now been added to high rotation on Nova 106.9 in Brisbane. It's likely that a number of national networks will now get behind the band and their forthcoming tracks. Small Mercies EP "Off The Record" is out now through Modern Music and Sony Distribution.
Transport On Triple J
National campus winning Brisbane act Transport have recently been getting some Triple J airplay with their track "I'm No Good" from their debut EP "Safe No Rebounds". "I'm No Good" was recently mixed by Dave Leonard at Modern Music Studios in May and the EP is out through MGM in July.
Upcoming Recordings At Modern Music
Hardcore band "Against", funk rock act "Elephant Mojo" and rock acts "Douglas Fir" and "Tripitaka" are scheduled to record with producer / engineer Stuart Niven over the next month at Modern Music Studios. Some of Stuarts recent projects include Ceremony, Parkway Drive, Ochre, Douglas Fir, Deep Fry and Filler.
UNI Capus Winners "Transport" Mix At Modern
National band campus winners from Brisbane, Transport, recently mixed the three main singles from their forthcoming debut EP. Transport are a mix of eclectic rock / pop with a funk groove edge which makes them really stand out from the crowd. Keep an ear out for these guys as they play around the live circuit.
Parkway Drive Still Charting
Gold Coast hardcore band Parkway Drive have been charting strongly in the AIR EP chart for two months. They recorded and mixed the debut EP with Stuart Niven at Modern Music in January after signing with Sydney based label Resist Records.
Small Mercies (Formerly Blaik) Recording Debut EP At Modern Music
Brisbane based 5 piece "Small Mercies" who signed to music veteran John Woodruff's label three years ago have recently begun recording their debut EP at Modern Music with producer / engineer Dave Leonard. Dave Leonard recently picked up the management of the act following Greg Shaws departure and has entered into a label joint venture deal with John Woodruff. The EP is due for release in August along with a stack of tour dates on the East Coast in August and September.
