Standard First Aid

Course Content

This 24 hour course is for anyone of 15 years and over who wishes to gain knowledge and experience of First Aid. Course content includes:

- Incident and casualty management, plus communication and delegation in an emergency.

- Priorities of First Aid, including primary/secondary survey and recovery position.

- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation; to include adult, baby and child resuscitation.

- Disorders of the airway, including procedures for adult, baby and child

- Control of bleeding, including internal and external bleeding of the hand, arm, elbow, head, scalp, eye, foot, penetrating chest, abdominal, varicose vein, embedded object wound dressings and also elevation and arm sling.

- Disorders of the brain, including concussion, compression, skull fracture, stroke, epilepsy, diabetes (hyper and hypoglycaemia).

- Burns and scalds

- Injuries to bones and muscles, including upper arm, lower arm, elbow cannot be bent, collar bone, hand, face, chin, jaw, chest, pelvic, thigh, leg, ankle, knee, foot and spinal fractures, spinal fracture recovery position, sprains and strains.

- Poisoning

- Extremes of temperature, including frostbite, hypothermia, heat exhaustion, heat stroke.

- Eye injuries.

- Miscellaneous injuries and conditions.

Certification

The certificate for successful completion of this course is valid for three years

 

Grampian Executive Committee will be running a Standard First Aid course:

8th January – 25th March 2008 (12 Tuesday evenings)
Time: 7.30pm – 9.30pm
