Frequently Asked Questions

Can I obtain a video or CD of a BBC programme?

BBC copyright agreements only cover broadcasts. The rights for further distribution of programme recordings have to be negotiated as separate agreements. Therefore we can only provide a recording if it has been made commercially available. Further information on this topic.

Why does bbc.co.uk/religion use BCE and CE instead of BC and AD?

In line with modern practice bbc.co.uk/religion uses BCE/CE (Before Common Era/Common Era) as a religiously neutral alternative to BC/AD. As the BBC is committed to impartiality it is appropriate that we use terms that do not offend or alienate non-Christians.

I am having trouble getting audio to work

Audio clips and Listen Again links on bbc.co.uk/religion use the RealMedia audio format. To listen to them you will need to have a program called RealPlayer installed on your computer. Find help with installing and using RealPlayer here.

Very occasionally one of our audio or video links will fail to work because of a temporary problem. If you have tried again two or three times, waiting a few minutes, and the audio or video still doesn't play, please contact us.
