Position Summary/Purpose
The Design Manager is responsible for conceptualization and design of solutions from concept to completion. The candidate should have strong project management skills and a working understanding of brand, layout, typography and color theory. The position could have internal and external client presentation opportunities, ability to supervise print, work with outside vendors, illustrators and photographers. The business objectives of this position are to create new and progressive designs that will reflect the attitudes and goals of the company.

  • Design management and production of final mechanicals for creative services requests (e.g. logos, web banners, collateral print materials, advertising and multi-media, etc.)
  • Manage designers and agencies to insure innovative top-level graphics are developed and maintained
  • Provide support to Creative Services department, especially in art direction, production, file preparation and other related tasks to send final art to press
  • Design and production of web-specific graphics (e.g. banners, ads, pop-up ads, etc...) Working closely with MLSnet.com staff

Required Skills
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following skills and relevant work experience.

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic design concepts and techniques
  • Proficiency in Creative Suite and design applications (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Quark, Flash, etc.)
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task by properly dividing time among several projects at one time
  • Degree in Graphic Design and or equivalent
  • 5+ years background in production and pre-press procedures, preferably in sports design or related
  • Experience supervising designers and or production vendors/agencies
  • Willing to work long hours and travel some weekends on a seasonal basis
  • Ability to present in front of groups
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred, but not necessary

MLS Multimedia Coordinator (Consultant)

Position Summary/Purpose
Major League Soccer is seeking qualified individuals based in each of its teams' 12 cities to assist with aspects of each club's video and multimedia efforts in relation to Major League Soccer's website, www.mlsnet.com. This is an excellent opportunity with plenty of potential for growth and skill development. Under the direction of the MLS League Office, the individual will also have a hand in generating and executing ideas. Self-starter and team player who shows initiative for new projects preferred. Candidates must possess technical knowledge and skills in the following:

  • Operating and handling DV camera equipment (for news quality production)
  • Location Audio Recording, use of Microphone Equipment
  • Working with available light
  • Producing original content
  • Story-telling
  • Final Cut Pro - nonlinear editing ability
  • PC/Mac savvy
  • FTP software- ability to upload video files
  • Knowledge of Video Compression, Live Type, Motion Graphics a plus
Other Responsibilities
  • Recording and filing post-game press conferences to the website
  • Shooting interviews with coaches and players during the week
  • Shooting footage at team practices during the week
  • Creating and shooting feature stories that would run on the team and league websites
  • Helping create other team and league related content for the website and potentially other media outlets

Graphic Design Intern (stipend)

Position Summary/Purpose
The position requires a positive thinking, goal oriented and motivated individual who is interested in pursuing a career path in the sports and entertainment field that includes many disciplines such as: brand identity (corporate and/or sports), package design, corporate identity, and advertising design. The internship position in the design and creative services department works with the Creative Director as well as Graphic Designers. Interns will work directly on projects - doing actual work.

MLS/SUM International Communications intern

Job responsibilities:
  • Assists in generating publicity of MLS and SUM among US Spanish language and international media (translations, etc)
  • Assists in media operations surrounding all SUM properties
  • Assists in planning and execution of all SUM media events
  • Compile focused media material and content for both SUM and MLS events
  • Assists in the day to day media requests
  • Assist Coordinator, International Communications with releases and general tasks on both MLS and SUM publicity calendars
  • Support all strategies and goals of the department as directed by Manager, International Communications

Soccer United Marketing

Manager, Online Sales

Business Development

Reports To

Primary Responsibilities
Proactively sell the Soccer United Marketing, Major League Soccer, U.S. Soccer and other SUM strategic properties to potential online partners: The critical component of this function is to generate revenue for SUM properties through online sponsorship.

Maximize advertising revenue by managing and building strategic relationships with online advertising agencies, SUM corporate partners as-well-as work with outside agencies that oversee the "backend" management of MLS's and SUM's websites.

Work in tandem with the Business Development group to create relationships with major U.S. corporations as-well-as major media and advertising agencies: In addition to selling directly to clients, a successful candidate will also create meaningful relationships with the major advertising agencies (inclusive of Hispanic clients) in the United States.

  • Bachelor's degree a minimum
  • 3-5 years of online advertising sales experience
  • Extensive understanding of advertising sales and online marketplace
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills (PowerPoint)
  • Proven ability and passion to sell online media
  • Creative thinker
  • Eagerness to mine new business (cold calling, research, etc.)
  • Must be a team player and have the ability to multitask
