LONDON, August 23: Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) will launch two new channels in Africa later this year on MultiChoice’s digital pay-TV satellite platform: the general family entertainment channel Sony Entertainment Television (SET) and the anime channel Animax.

SET and Animax will be available on MultiChoice to DStv subscribers for the first time in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Lesotho and Zimbabwe. In a separate agreement with MultiChoice, the Portugal feed of AXN has been extended to Portuguese-speaking territories Angola and Mozambique in Africa.

The family entertainment channel SET, available in 54 million households in 34 countries, is targeted at the 16-to-49 group. The anime channel Animax, available in Asia, Latin America and more recently in Europe, airs 24 hours a day in 40 million homes across 42 countries and in 14 languages. The channel is primarily targeted at 15-to 29-year-olds. AXN is a general entertainment channel reaching over 100 million households in 16 languages in 50 countries.
