Letter from Buckingham Palace to the Governor-General of New Zealand, 1977

Due to increasing public pressure, including a 7000 strong petition, ‘God Defend New Zealand’ was promoted to joint national anthem alongside ‘God Save the Queen.’ in 1977. This letter, dated 12 October, gives Queen Elizabeth II’s approval to the move.
