Cartoon Network Tops Weekly and Friday Prime Ratings for the Week of Oct. 2-8

Network Charts Its First-Ever Prime Weekly Win in October

Chalking up yet another prime time weekly ratings win, Cartoon Network finished the first week of October in first place for prime time household ratings (1.9) among ad-supported cable networks and in third place for total-day ratings (1.1, tied with TBS Superstation and Lifetime). This tally marks the network's first-ever prime time ratings win in any October since launch (Oct. 1, 1992), extending its exceptional summer performance well into fall 2000.

Cartoon Network also won the Friday night (Oct. 6) ratings race, scoring a 2.2 household rating (+28 percent vs. Friday night last year), a 5.1 kids 6-11 rating (+55 percent) and a 5.1 kids 2-11 rating (+28 percent). The Powerpuff Girls earned a particularly strong 2.5 household rating at 8:30 p.m., leading the way for the evening's win.

The weekly prime time results represent a 12 percent increase in household ratings, a 45 percent increase in kids 6-11 (2.9) and a 25 percent increase in kids 2-11 (4.5), compared to last year. Household delivery in prime grew by 25 percent (1,290,000), kids 6-11 delivery by 55 percent (669,000) and kids 2-11 delivery by 37 percent (1,182,000).

In total day, household ratings (1.1) remained consistent with last year, while kids 6-11 ratings (2.1) grew by 40 percent and kids 2-11 ratings (2.4) grew by 26 percent. Household delivery in total day grew by 17 percent (764,000), kids 6-11 delivery by 48 percent (332,000) and kids 2-11 delivery by 37 percent (630,000).

On Sunday (Oct. 8), the Dexter's Laboratory marathon, "Favorite Dexters" (12-7 p.m.), earned a 1.8 household rating and delivered 1,207,000 homes. Compared to the same time period last year, household rating was up 29 percent and delivery increased by 41 percent. Kids 6-11 posted a 3.6 rating, up 57 percent over last year, and increased delivery by 30 percent to 1,039,000 viewers. Teen ratings rose a significant 160 percent, from a 0.5 to a 1.3, and delivery nearly tripled, from 67,000 viewers to 188,000 viewers (+181 percent).
